Dark, bitter chocolate aroma. It starts out sweet and ends with a bitter edge at the back of the tongue. Plenty of carbonation and so the beer wants to jump around on the tongue as it heads for the throat. Enjoyed the beer. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2006 Pours a nice brownish black color. Aromas of espresso, chocolate, and a hint of bitter smoke. Flavor has a burnt chocolate/coffee taste to it, nice touch of creaminess coming in at the end. Damn fine porter. Mumpu (46), USA

Nice chocolate, carmel. coffee aroma and flavor. Tastey but thin bodied. Over-carbonated and too ’fizzy’ of a finish. A good porter overall and will drink it again. NephrenKa (27), Ft. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2006 I am not a porter or stout person. Yet I am determined to get over my IPA fetish and try the Dark Side. This beer, to my delighted surprise, ended up being the best porter I have ever had (out of a VERY narrow range, mind you.) The head poured a wispy chocolate and the color was an impenetrable burnt coffee. The nose reminded me of mild smoke, with lots of coffee, Irish Cream, and whisky, of all things! Most porters I’ve had are sour, gruel-like, and flat out...meaty. The Cutthroat instead presented a milky creaminess that developed a coffee ice cream (yes, you heard right) aftertaste. The Irish cream flavor remained unti lthe bitter end. In all, this is a pretty mild porter, with enough richness to keep my interest and spur my investigation into something besides IPA’s. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 10, 2006 Bottled. Beer is a very dark red-brown color with a small, white, frothy, totally and rapidly diminishing head. The aroma is malty with moderate notes of husky toasted grain, moderate-to-heavy notes of chocolate, hint of molasses; Hoppy with a moderate note of resin/pine; Yeasty with a moderate note of dough, light note of mild cheese; Light miscellaneous note of pepper. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, moderately acidic/tangy with an longer-than-average, lightly bittersweet finish. Roasty/husky retros. The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is softer-than-average. Arnie (272), Chicagoland, IL, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 2, 2006 It it wrong to love a beer? I hope not. I think I’m in love. A clean, thick pour from the bottle (thanks Slothgar T!), with a dark tan head that’s thick and sits. Opaque plum-black in color. Hints of dark rye, mild coffee, and dark chocolate on nose. Flavor is a crisp dark chocolate. A great dark porter. gws57 (1148), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
