Good cocoa-notes in the aroma, but it doens’t come out in the flavor much. Generally pretty bland, but it will work pretty well with food, say, with dinner (supper). paulmetzger (152), Pocatello, Idaho, USA

The good news is that it smells and tastes very much like coffee. The bad news is that’s about it. Too thin for a porter. timtheenchanta (70), Clemson, South Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 4, 2006 Good looking very dark brown beer. This one is very close to being black. Decent sized head with thin webby lacing. Not a ton of stick.
Sweet coffee smell and dark chocolate smell and taste. Good hoppy balance in the finish.
This is a highly drinkable porter. presario (3001), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Rich looking very dark beer with a thin cream head. Aroma is very chocolaty and sweet with a hint of bitterness. Roasted and chocolate flavours. Like the aroma the flavour is skewed strongly to chocolate. Probably needs a tray of cheese to go with it. Creamy mouth feel. 2007 sampled another bottle and lowered the rating seemed thin and light, more of a sessional brown than solid porter. notalush (2684), Denver, Colorado, USA

Roasted malt, chocolate, some very mild burnt grain notes and an even milder smoked elelment. Dark brown body holds a mostly lasting thumb thick and creamy tan head. Fore is roast-bitter with an almost lactose/oatmeal creaminess, mild chocolate notes, faint coffee and some trace candy caramel notes. Pretty tasty and well done. schwaiger (90), Laramie, Wyoming, USA

Spend some time with this beer and you’ll appreciate a lot more of what’s there. Lovely aroma. Typical chocolate and coffee (some espresso), but there’s so much more in there. Old saddle soap, and some smoldering leaf piles. Not smokey per se, but this definitely gives the impression of fall, the earthy smells of a quite midwestern town on a rainy Sunday morning before anyone wakes up. Add a slighty burned oatmeal cookie with chocolate and butterscotch chips and you’ll begin to understand what this beer is all about. Black with a large, mostly diminishing toasty head with excellent lacing. Flavors of chocolate and coffee and smoked meat. Very smooth and drinkable, but would have scored higher if it was a bit thicker. My first thought with this porter was, "Wow, that’s really something." A fine example of a classic porter that does everything well. glkaiser (1172), Seattle, Washington, USA
