Deep bright ruby, very large fluffy-foamy biege head. Dry medium roast aroma, mild chocolate and a hint of smoke. Unfortunate metallic taste upfront, but dry roasty malt, and dry herbal bitterness once it burns off - more like a mild than a porter. Average body, soft carbonation, nice lingering roast, no unpleasantness in the linger. Nice. joshpiledean (227), Ames, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Black pour, nearly opaque...just a hint of brown gets through. Head is light brown, leaves a nice lace. Aroma is the weak point, as it is light, slightly roasty, and grainy. Flavor is good, nutty and roasty, slightly smoky and a hint of sweet chocolate. Some light grain. Hops are right on, not too light or heavy for this beer. Medium mouthfeel, not very alcoholic, but it could stand to have a little more body to it. Finish is a bit sweet, but appropriate. Would drink again. TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a seriously dark brown-black -- held right up to a light bulb, virtually no light makes it through. The pour produces a tan medium head with large-ish bubbles. Head settles down to a small ring that leaves not a lot of lacing. Aroma is weak but eventually shows notes of chocolate and coffee. Flavor also shows some coffee, lightly bitter roasted grains, and a shot of pleasant sweetness with each swallow. Medium body with a disappointingly thin palate. Solid effort that’s nice and drinkable. bluemooner (237), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Nice roasty taste with hints of hops, malts, chocolate, coffe, and nuts. Well balanced and excellent overall. Oakes (8100), gone rambling, Vietnam
