Commercial Description:
Double Pilsner is our tribute to the pilsner style, heavily hopped but balanced with malt and refined on our 5-barrel system. Originally brewed in Bohemia, pilsners were the world's first clear golden lagers and the start of a dramatic revolution in brewing. Today, pilsners are still a revered part of Czech and German life and an inspiration to our brewers.

Apr. 2007 - Pour was yellow with some haze, otherwise clear, some head and lacing. Strong aroma of sweet grass. Flavor was predominantly sweet pilsner malts with some grassiness. Maybe a tad too sweet for everyday drinking, but nice for something different. Could have used a bit more hops to balance it out.

Poured clear, light gold, with a modest white head. Not much duration or height on the foam, and left behind a ring with a few whisps on the surface. Aromatics are a mix of corn pulp, honey, and white pepper dust. The sweetish malt character shines through, with a some nice grassy hop notes and corn silks. Mouthfeel is smooth and a bit sticky. Carbonation could be greater a to add some crispness and help fend off some residuals. The pallet is lightly malty, with a mild toasted note and more honey. Peppery and spicey hops add some pizzaz to a fairly straightforward malt and corn profile. Bitterness is firm and blends well with some warming alcohol. Fiishes with some lingering bitterness and sticky honey.

12 oz bottle at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007. Golden color with weak head. Sweetish malty flavor with honey, perfume and grainy notes. Sweet malty and somewhat bitter flavor with herbal and peppery hops, honey and grainy notes. Works!

PP SAF 2007. Clear gold with a minimal head. Strong bready aroma with some sweet grass too. Flavor is similar with a strong crisp bitterness in the finish. Damn drinkable!

Light blond color. Hay aroma, with some malt. Very sweet, quite strong bitterness, round mouthfeel, but not impressive.

355 ml. distinctively shaped and embossed Odell bottle, blurb on the right side of front label, and in the lower left hand corner, a bottling date (2 2007), sampled in a pilsener glass. Poured an cloudy bright yellowish golden, sort of a banana color, nice sized creamy white head with a lot of staying power, active, micro bubbly carbonation in the beginning, but fades quickly, and a fair amount of laced sticking. Big aromas of floral, lemon honey-like hops and a light backing of sweet bready pale malts. The alcohol is slightly noticeable, mixed in with the sweet honey and bread smells. Sweet and dry tasting, floral honey hop flavors combined with candied sour lemon, touches of spiciness towards the end. The hops also mesh with the alcohol, giving this a sweet and spicy low temperature warmth in the palate. The malts stay underneath the hops through out the taste, sweet bready and a soft graininess. Smooth and creamy light feeling body, but I would have like a little more carbonation for a crisp feeling in the mouth. A pilsener should be more crisp than creamy like a hefeweizen. A good stab at an Imperial Pilsener by Odell, but not one of favorites in this "new" style of pils.

Had this beer on 8/26/2006. Aroma is a faint malt scent. Color is a bright clear gold with very good carbonation and nice head. Taste is full. Starting with a medium body it goes down easy with just a faint tingle. Finish come in with a nice yet light malt flavor that is backed by a faint hop flavor and an even bitterness. I wish more Pilsners were this good. Only down fall to this beer is its price.
