Commercial Description:
Double Pilsner is our tribute to the pilsner style, heavily hopped but balanced with malt and refined on our 5-barrel system. Originally brewed in Bohemia, pilsners were the world's first clear golden lagers and the start of a dramatic revolution in brewing. Today, pilsners are still a revered part of Czech and German life and an inspiration to our brewers.

Bottle. Clear yellow/amber with a medium head. Apricot, pale malt and honey with a standard grassy hop bitterness. Sweeter that your average pilsner. Once again, the label ’double pilsner’ doesn’t seem worth the effort.

Purchased at Gomers of Kansas. Poured a hay golden color with a nice white head. Aroma of toastiness and malt. Flavor is sweet with a medium hop bitterness. I was expecting something a little different but still enjoyed this beer.

The 12 ounce bottle poured a crystal clear golden yellow beverage with a modest white frothy head that was mostly diminishing and left almost no lacing on the glass. The aroma was not well balanced erring on the side of malt. The grain aromas were all that I could detect along with notes of earth and aged leather. Where’re the hops? The body was surprisingly full - atypical of a pilsner style. There was lively carbonation and the texture was smooth and creamy. The flavor starts out moderately sweet with just a hint of of bitterness at the back. As it matures on the palate it retains the sweetness and the bitterness grows slightly. There is decided alcohol warmth at the end of the long finish.

In the bottle from Beertopia. Pours a bright yellow color with a big white head that eventually settles to a fine and substantial coating atop the glass with thick rings of lacing. I get strong lemon aromas with a quick whiff of juniper. The beer has an initial biting bitterness that segues into some serious malt sweetness and finishes with a really thick malty and lemon-like bolus. I suppose that I like this beer because it reminds me of a good attempt at making homebrew malt liquor that I tried last year. I like malt liquor when it is balls to the wall and not just more adjuncts. This should have been sold as a high brow malt liquor.

Bottle. Pours a bright, dense yellow with slight carbonation and a healthy white head. Aroma is lemon and faint hops, with a slight floral hint in the background. Flavors are lemon, sweet rose, and corn flakes, with a slight alcohol finish. Thick and pleasant mouthfeel, unlike most Pilsners I’ve had. This is what a Pilsner should be, in my opinion.

Nice shiny golden light yellow. Poor head. Light flowery nose with a hint of bubblegum. Hint of sweetness at the start. Grainy with a dry pepper middle. Almost malt liquor finish.

12oz. bottle. Aroma is largely comprised of gently grainy, bready and lightly sweet malts, along with a certain pungent, vegetal, faintly spicy hop character and a touch of yeast. Clear light-medium golden color with a vaguely green cast and a lasting, lightly foamy head that leaves some nice lacing. More sweet and crackery malts arise in the flavor, this time a touch more sugary and strongly apparent overall, and meeting a wash of bitterness seemingly borne by the abundant effervecence, finishing with a blend of grainy, pale maltiness, some lightly peppery hop spice and a touch of the alcohol, all of which combine to give the impression of a highly refined malt liquor. Palate is lively and a bit thicker than expected for a lager of this type, while the body is medium. Very dangerously drinkable, although one would want to consume it at a fairly cold temperature regardless to preserve as many of the positive aspects as possible.

Bottle... Clear yellow lager with a mid-sized, wispy, white head. Good retention. Acetaldehyde Bomb, this one! Unpleasant flavors and aromas of dated latex paint, green leaves, green apple and not-so-freshly-cut grass. The total ethanal experience! The flavor is also cloyingly sweet with a light, medicinal bitterness. Full-bodied with a Half & Half® mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lengthy, sweet, medicinal finish. Kudos to my friend, vyvvy, for shipping the bottle to me. Maybe this was just a bad batch.
