MrChopin (620), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle thanks to mikey711 (BA)! Hazy gold, thin white head. Dirty, grainy lemon nose, light malt. Flavor is much improved, stronger wheat to accompany the light citrus, especially in the finish. Thin body. Pretty straightforward, lightly refreshing, but nothing exciting or new. kuphish (150), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear, golden body with abundant, pearly carb bubbles. Foamy, white head. Yeast adds a curling cloudiness. Wheat malt and spicy/floral aroma. More wheat malt in the flavor along with some light hop spice, minor tartness and a touch of metal. Light-medium body, a bit oily. Prickly carbonation, mild bitterness. Lingering metallic aftertaste. I remember this being better. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Sep 19, 2009 Tap. 24K gold color. Thin white head. Flavor of fruit, some wheat malt. Aroma of light malt, distant spice. A bit of corn in the finish. DWestrick (234), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 12, 2009 tap. decent wheat beer - had on tap in Denver at Jacksons sports across rockies stadium. smooth flavor and easy to drink thebeertourist (2750), Oslo, Norway Sep 11, 2009 Bottle from Utobeer. Hazy golden with a fine white head that quickly reduced to a film. Grainy aroma with hints of citrus. Quite bready, citric flavours provide a reminder that it may be a wheat beer. Well-carbonated, but I am not thrilled. ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Sep 11, 2009 On tap (brewery tap house). Pours up a hazy yellow with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. A simple wheaty bready aroma. The taste is of wheat, light bread, and a light flavor of lemon near finish. Alight bodied easy drinking wheat.
FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 8, 2009 A vigorous pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a four finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is an amber color that shows a mostly clear, copper-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is a mix of grassy wheat, pale crackers, fresh thrushed hay and a touch of herbal hop notes. The nose is quite clean of any fermentation character, though it maybe has a hint of green apple if you really dig for it. Not a bad nose, but fairly un-inspired.
There is a nice grassy grain character to this up front, as it moves across the tongue it picks up some toasty, biscuit like malt flavor, fresh crushed wheat character and a soft bread-like note. The finish has a touch of something that seems a bit metallic, perhaps tinny, and it also finishes a bit flat. A herbal hop note lingers in the finish, but strangely isn’t all that appealing. There is also a touch of bitterness that seems to come more to the fore the longer into the finish I get; it remains a light note though and perhaps even has a peppery edge to it.
There is not a whole lot going on here; this is a straight forward example of an American Wheat beer. Even when judged against the style though, it doesn’t seem to achieve quite the rusticity that something like Widmer manages to even achieve. This seems a bit too clean, even for an American Wheat. Not bad though, and certainly far from objectionable. bblack99 (195), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Aug 3, 2009 Hazy golden pour with a thin white head. Simple beer, smells of fresh-baked bread, tastes of green wheat and yeast. Easy to drink, good for summer, but nothing spectacular.
