Commercial Description:
Extra Special Red is our tribute to one of the oldest beer recipes on record. According to Egyptian mythology, red beer was used to pacify an angry goddess and save the world from destruction. But according to Doug Odell, it needed some hops. We updated this ancient recipe on our 5-barrel system using hand-selected new harvest hops, for our own extra special take on red beer.

Rating this from memory from a 12oz bottle, thanks Malcolm! Pour a clear amber-garnet. Tons of really fresh west coast hops, pine, and citrus in the nose. Spicy, fresh, wonderfully balanced. This one actually blew me away, just awesome.

Pours red-brown with a medium beige head, very good lacing. Smells of dark fruit, bread, nuts and pine. Medium body, velvety and crisp. A little bit of plum and caramel up front, with a bitter grass and pine aftertaste, and just a hint of sour.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with acdrz (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy copper color with a larger sized, creamy off white head. Aromas of pine, caramel, floral hops, and a little toasty. Tastes of caramel, floral hops, some and some fruitiness. Tastes a little on the weaker side and a bit of a let down compared to the aromas. Nice lacing left on the glass.

oft and dull raspberry red color. Clear. Sweet nose of sugared crystal malt and cedar scented dried hop cones. Some melon and maraschino cherries hint at Avery Hog Heaven, another sweet, thick, imperial red ale (or something). Texture is lightly rough, a little astringent on the back, chalky as well. Mostly sweet candy apple and sugared cedar, intensifying in the finish, leaves the mouth coated with a cherry and melon sugar syrup. A bit flabby on the back end. Okay overall but not something I could drink frequently.

12oz bottle. Pours a amber/copper witha small beige head which turns into a ring around the collar. Aromas of pine, caramel, malts. Flavors of pine and hop resin with a long finish of bittetrness. Pretty decent palate/body on this one.
