I don’t think I had even heard of Odell before this beer was opened today. Deep cola brown, not quite opaque stuff, decent brown head. Has a sharp, clean northwest aroma to it that reminds of Black Butte with a mild roast and light cocoa blending nicely with subtly pithy PNW hops. Pretty dry stuff, yet rich and full. Ends up boozy and maybe rummy with touches of lactic sourness. Pretty darn nice. shp555 (1687), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Aroma is full of chocolate malt sweetness and milky caramel, along with lighter touches of raisin, black cherry and vanilla combined with a roasty, earthy undercurrent and a very faint suggestion of bubblegum. Solid black in color with a lasting, fine, light brown head. Flavors include a stronger coffeeish element and light amount of spicinesss, blended with a generous amount of cocoa and toffee and finishing long with notes of peppery alcohol, red grape, very faint citrus and some lingering hop bitterness and roasty malts. Smooth and lightly coating mouthfeel with a full body. A pleasant rendition. CaptainCougar (5494), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of rich dark chocolate and licorice with a touch of earthy malt. Body starts fairly dull and sweet with a dark caramely malty flavor with a touch of smoke and plum complexity toward a drier finish. cbkschubert (1989), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 22, 2007 Immediately smelled a winey type of aroma, quickly followed by a quick kick of coffee and then settling into a somewhat harsh malt aroma, taste was indeed pleasant ,a subtle mixture of chocolate and vanilla, definitely on the light side, smooth and creamy and yet very light, always seemed to be a trace of Hersheys Chocolate syrup around,a session Imp Stout? zombywoof (358), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
