Fantastic aromas of grapefruit and pine with a sweet malt backing. Flavor is like biting into a fresh hop! Wow, fantastic, almost over the edge hop flavor, but has just enough malt backing to keep it from falling over.the edge.Wonderful grapefruit aftertaste! Recieved in another great trade with BitterBill, thanks again Bill! Odell’s IPA pours a crystal clear deep golden with few large carbonation bubbles rising to the surface. A dense white meringue-like head grew to one + fingers on the pour. Afte ra few minutes the head fell to a skimming with a thick ring and solid lacing. A good looking IPA!
This is an inviting, delicious smelling IPA! Lots of citrus in the nose, lemon and orange mostly, in that order of intensity. There’s even some spruce needle hoppiness in there all over a foundation of pale maltiness. The smell of this IPA reminds me of a milder Hop Wallop.
The flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma but is good non the less. Big notes of the lemon and orange the nose suggested along with a unique peppery spiciness. The spruce comes through on the swallow and provides the bitterness. Al this over a barely noticeable malt base which is just the way I like things.
The mouthfeel of this beer is just about perfect. It’s medium bodied, soft and creamy on the tongue. The lack of carbonation lets this beer glide through slowly and allows the hoppiness to shine.
This beer is going down far too easily! I could easily and enjoyably put away a few of these in a sitting.
My first sampling from Odell and not my last. I’m very impressed with this IPA. It doesn’t fall into the cookie cutter mold like so many other brewers do. Too bad this isn’t available locally, it would be a constant in my fridge. Thanks for the taste Bill!

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2008 tap at the brewpub - Pours copper with a white head and a good grapefruit hops aroma. The flavor is also all about the grapefruit accented hops with enough malt to give it some body. It’s quite enjoyable and is easily the best of the sampler I had. Braudog (3780), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 2, 2008 Bottle. Ruddy orange, barely a fizz and virtually no head. The aroma is killer, though .. full of citric hops. This drinks like a fruit punch, predominately grapefruit, with some passion fruit, papaya maybe. Almost too fruity, but certainly fun to drink. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 What a pleasant surprise this was. Aroma was a wonderful fragrant orange, grapefruit and pine aroma,as fresh as can be, theres juicy malting in the background but who cares. This is one of those rare hophead delights. I’ll have to check the bottle ,this was hand delivered by someone who just came back from Colorado, but I’d swear this was fresh out of the fermenter. I don’t know why I’m not giving this aroma a 10, taste does not disappoint, deep and wide hop complexity with fresh citrus and pine, again with satisfying malt backing, but this is a fantastic hops spectacular. I’ll have a standing order in for this Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Tap at the Falling Rock taphouse. Creamy, smooth yellow gold pour with a firm off white head that sticks in sheets. Weird and pleasantly pungent aroma of sauvingnon blanc, garlic, seaweed, honey malts, and lime and grapefruit zests. Really reminiscent of Alpine’s Nelson example. Taste is bitter and full of herbs, strange sweetness, vanilla, garlic, and brisk malt; guava, orange, and pineapple acids. Really wet and alive with fresh hops from another planet; pungent and wild. Palate is juicy and rich; softly carbonated, and quenching. Finishes long and whetting with honey, milk, and cool mint bitterness. A memorably strange and creative rendition. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Bottle. Hazy orange and yellow body with a creamy, lightly yellowed head. The aroma is massive citrus, lots of grapefruit. There is also a little bit of raisin toast. Nice, fruity smell overall. The taste has some nicely balanced grapefruit along with a little bit of bread crust and peanut shells. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and creamy with very soft carbonation. Another well balanced and relatively subtle beer from Odell. They are probably my favorite Colorado brewer. This is my style of IPA!
