The same wild variety of flavors shows up in the beer: soapy hops, caramel, and a chocolate finish. True to its description, the beer is void of fruit. Palate is heavy, and maybe a little cloying. A unique warmer, and one worth trying. redlight (1492), Winter Park, Florida, USA

2004/2005 edition. Sweet aroma, malty. Pours reddish brown. This has a definite malt flavor, not much hops in here. Caramel, sweetness. Great but i miss me some hops! originally rated 3.3. jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 20, 2005 Pours beautiful ruby with small tan head that quickly diminishes. Mild apple and pear notes in the nose mixed with a sharp almost pine note. Flavor is well balanced, leaning toward sweet, smoky malts. Alcohol speeds the mild, peaty finish. Decent. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2005 Pour is a deep red with a white head. Aroma is chocolate malts with a nice hop tingle. Flavor is dark and malty at first then you get some oily hops at the end of the tounge. Deffinatly no fruit of spice in this brew. Taste and smells like a few Rogue beers i have had in the past. Tasty and decent. 1st rating. 1.9. 2006. This beer looks and smells good. Okay, enough praise. The taste is just not good. I’m glad I had it at a holiday party, because it took all of us to get it down. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Good dark red clean clear color and a thin head on top. The aroma is nicely malty, rich in smokey and heartyness. The mouthfeel is rather dull however, its not terribly bitter, or thick enough for an english strong ale. The only lasting impression is a faint acidicy and then some smokey maltyness.
