| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 3, 2009 Originally rated July 18th, 2009, not sure why I didn’t add it then: Pours cloudy mahogany, with a thin cream-colored head, fine lasting lacing. Aromas of toffee, plum, oak, vanilla, leather, and alcohol. Chewy, thick body, slightly crisp, mineral edge. Tastes of caramel, vanilla, citrus, honey, very sweet, lightly fruity, with a warming alcohol presence. A very big beer. I am looking forward to opening another bottle in the winter after it’s aged a bit.

The appearance was hazy amber in color, decent white-ish colored head and lacing. The aroma was toffee, funk, orangey-caramel malts, faint oak. The flavor followed, but it was more oak (virgin oak indeed), vanilla, then the rest. An odd brew, not sure everything melded together well, but I kinda enjoyed this one. Thanks, Bill, very kind of you. Drank this before I was expecting to, but sending cheers out there in honor of my good friend and his lost bestest of friends. Will miss seeing you, Wendy, on my visits to AZ!!! GMCC2181 (880), Bear/Elkton, Delaware, USA

Kind of a funky aroma that has a tartness to it with some wood notes. At first the taste was a little funky... but then it quickly grew on me. Slight tartness, wood, malty, light orange note. Texture was light and bubbly, easy to drink. I wouldnt of guessed it to be over ten percentile. Nice beer. sebletitje (1986), Tampa, Florida, USA

bottle# 2715 pours amber, off white head.
aroma has some nice sweet hops, malts and wood barrel, oak and vanilla.
flavor, brown sugar, malty, oak barrel, with a mild hoppy profile adding a tad of bitterness. Palate is boozy, caramel malts with nice mellow vanilla sweetness.
Hops and malts blend perfectly, add the barrel aging on top, and this is a fine beer. talon1117 (628), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2009 Bottle 3571. Bottled 4-20-09. The beer pours a hazy, coppery-gold color with an average, white, pillowy head which is mostly diminishing and leaves minimal lace. Nose is pleasant but nothing exceptional; notes of rich vanilla bean, fresh oak from the wood shop, toasted wood hints, light almonds, hints of apricot, and perfumey notes. Similar flavor with lots of vanilla bean up front with toffee and toasted caramel bringing a high sweetness but mellows with notes of cut oak, Jack hints, some perfume and apricot, and some honeyed bread. Palate is silky smooth, soft to lively, more than medium, and just a touch dry. The finish has some breads, oaken vanilla, and some light tannins that dry the beer some and bring just enough bitterness to avoid complete sweet domination. Truly a pleasant beer to drink and at 11%, no less, but minimal complexity and a vanilla laden sugar bomb make it only an average beer. The oak notes are nice but seemed overshadowed by the vanilla and the malts seemed a bit dominated by the vanilla sweetness. Maybe it is the time a let it sit in the cellar or maybe it is just the way Doug intended the beer to be, but I believe I am going to try No. 3 much sooner than I tried this one. I have come to like the single batch beers from Odell in recent times, but this one was just adequate. JoeTheYounger (288), California, USA
