Commercial Description:
Rorie’s Ale is a quadruple ale aged for one year in wine barrels with sour cherries. Brewed to celebrate the birth of our brewmaster Peter Hoey’s daughter this ale is designed to be cellared for years. Rich caramel, burnt sugar and spicy notes combine with the fruity cherry and sweet malt character for a complex sipping beer. This beer would pair well with lamb, duck and triple cream cheeses as well as transition seamlessly into dessert.

750mL bottle, purchased from The Shack in Sacramento. Pours a clear, dark, orange-tinged cherry-cola color; thin light-tan head with good retention and fine-bubbled lacing that sticks; attractive pour. Some solid and lightly tannic red wine notes, brown sugar, barrel toastiness and cherry juice in the nose; nicely dry, fully developed presence; nothing messy here, hidden alcohol, and a smooth approach. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: this beer (especially after Ommegang’s big and sticky Adoration earlier today) really is a well-developed, vinuous, complex quad; there’s a complex, caramel and chewy brown sugar core matched to a well-met white pepper note; excellent presence and acidity in the mouth; lightly tart red fruits, hints of citrus, all backed up by a toasted wine barrel presence that really is nothing if not soft, well-integrated, and beautifully brought into the vision of this beer (I was kind of hoping to pan this, in spite of the fact that I loved Sac Brew’s Brett Blonde); honey, light vanilla, toasty barrel and hints of maple syrup, and all without showing any overt sweetness; this is anything but a happen-chance big beer succeeding; this is carefully dried, carefully blended, and masterfully done by a brewer that evidently knows his shit by now; very satisfying, and one which I’ll happily drink a whole bottle of. Lasting finish of toasty maltiness, light cereal, some red fruits; all nicely dry.

Huge nose. Wine barrel, dark fruits, cherries, dusty, yeasty, musty dark malts. Super unique nose - not really quad like, rich nose. Copper hazy pour, nice beige head and lace. Super sweet - brown sugar, cherries, brown bread, sweet fruit cake. Sweet but lightly tart, aged malt and spice makes it a little dusty/musty. Lingering sweet/lightly tart cherries. Sweet and awesome. Would age very well! I like this one. This would be amazing w age. Great potential.

750ml corked and caged from riversideak...thanks bro!  Huge rich dark fruit nose.  Tons of dark berry fruit with wine notes, cinnamon, cherry pit, tart tobacco.  Really kind of thin and metallic, with some earthy leather and tobacco.  Damn, this is a well made beer and I like the flavors that are going on, but this beer would be kick ass with time.

Bottle… This beer rocks!... Murky, caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The bouquet is a sublime blend of wood, toffee, tart cherries, caramel and pouch tobacco. Full-bodied with a sticky mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Sweet caramel and praline - moderately acidic as well. Sweet, toffee and brown sugar finish. Big-time kudos to daknole for sharing this delight!

Thanks to Dak for this great beer. Sits in the glass a reddish amber color. Smells of cherries, vanilla, green apples, raisins. Taste is sour cherries, oak, vanilla, crisp green apples, some raisin. Mouth feel is excellent. A very drinkable beer, very solid brew to say the least.

courtesy of Daknole. pours hazy orange, off white head. aroma of ripe cherry, wood, yeast. flavor, cherry goodness, barrel, wood, yeasty, sugar, warming abv and hints of caramel malts, Palate is covered with cherries followed by a decent amount of sweetness and a mild fruit tartness. Interesting approach to the typical Belgian Quad style.

Aromas and tastes: oakey, vanilla, spicy, cherry, vinous, small etoh presence, and cherry tartness in the finish. Thickish but not too thick, Fairly drinkable but a little too sweet for my tastes. Worth looking into.

Pours a deep red, amberish color. Nose is of cherries, sugar, some vanilla notes. Taste is sour cherries, vanilla, sugars, and a slight oak finish. Fantastic mouth feel. One of my favorites of the year. Thanks to fidel for bringing this!
