DrnkMcDermott (1831), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Aug 6, 2007 12 oz. bottle, sampled at the brewery tour. Cloudy copper color. Has a deep hoppy smell and taste. Not a big smack in the face, but a deep hop bill that for once is backed up by some substantial malt character, which isn’t easy for a beer at this strength. stretchfest (45), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 5, 2007 Updated: Aug 12, 2009Citrusy smell, coppery-orange color, cloudy. Rocky head, off-white, a bit sticky, but diminished pretty quickly. Hoppy tasting, feels very smooth in the mouth, finishes bitter. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Aug 2, 2007 deep orange opaque color with rocky white foamy head. and actually, don’t think i’m weird, but i touched the head and it didn’t move and it was sticky firmly holding everything into place stronger than hairnet. flavor is very agreeable. lots of strong but not crazy overpowering hops. citrus (lemon and orange) almost feel like they are infused with merigue, and pine, apple, and fruity malty goodness, for lack of better terms . hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 21, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a medium to deeper and cloudy orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, pine, grains, and lightly floral. Tastes of citrus, grainy, and light caramel. Lacing left on the glass. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 19, 2007 Thanks to my best buddies Cole and Jen for this one. 12oz, no date. I poured this badly (forgot it was bottle conditioned) so it was a cloudy copper orange, some floaties, and a couple bubbles for a head--roused it and got a creamy one finger off-white head.Aroma had lots of pine and grapefruit--lovely since it’s fresh--with a good caramel malt backbone. Nothing crazy strange or complex, but what’s there is solid. Flavor had much the same--grapefruit, pine, caramel malts--but the pine and grapefruit seemed quite a bit more muted than I would’ve thunk from the aroma. Not bad, by any means, but more along the lines of a flavorful APA. Again, not bad, but I’m kinda sad I didn’t get any more oomph in the flavor from the hops. Bitterness peaks around a 4 (of 10). Light almost creamy carbonation with a medium body. I would be happy drinking a few of these while camping. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 17, 2007 Bottled. Beer is clear, medium orange-caramel brown colored. Head is average-sized, creamy/frothy, beige, slowly diminishing and mostly lasting.
The aroma is spicy, high-alpha hop driven. Malty with light notes of toasted grain, cracker; Hoppy with moderate/heavy notes of resinous grapefruit oil; Light yeast note of basement; Trace of peppery wood.
The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter with a long, unclean, lightly acidic, lightly sweet finish. Bad sourish/dirty/sharp cheese aftertaste finish. Bleh!
The body is medium, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is lively.
Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 17, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit), with a hint of isopropyl alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Below average, or at least this sample was. beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Jul 13, 2007 Pretty damn nice hoppy beer, an extra from theisti. Pours orange-copper with a small head and cannot see through the beer. Aroma is orange-heavy citrus with grapefruit hops, nicely fresh with a slight oily hop aspect. Taste is better melded citrus flavors (cannot pinpoint one type of citrus fruit) with light sweet cereal-hoppiness (weird nothing like it before, or maybe just a well intergrated malt and hops profile). FInishes medium bitter with a long grapefruit skin aftertaste.
