I poured this badly (forgot it was bottle conditioned) so it was a cloudy copper orange, some floaties, and a couple bubbles for a head--roused it and got a creamy one finger off-white head.Aroma had lots of pine and grapefruit--lovely since it’s fresh--with a good caramel malt backbone. Nothing crazy strange or complex, but what’s there is solid. Flavor had much the same--grapefruit, pine, caramel malts--but the pine and grapefruit seemed quite a bit more muted than I would’ve thunk from the aroma. Not bad, by any means, but more along the lines of a flavorful APA. Again, not bad, but I’m kinda sad I didn’t get any more oomph in the flavor from the hops. Bitterness peaks around a 4 (of 10). Light almost creamy carbonation with a medium body. I would be happy drinking a few of these while camping. RAYBOY01 (1868), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2007 Big robust PNW hop nose...citrus and pine mainly, The pour is classically attractive...orange/copper with a very fluffy off-white head that lingers quite a long time. The flavors are big caramel/toffee malts...sweet and mellow with the PNW hop character providing the bright highlights of grapefruit and pine resin. This is a very, very nice effort and one of my new favorite session ales. DrnkMcDermott (1861), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Has a deep hoppy smell and taste. Not a big smack in the face, but a deep hop bill that for once is backed up by some substantial malt character, which isn’t easy for a beer at this strength. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2008 A very middle of the road IPA. This would be a good crossover beer for the BMCs. Aroma was decent. Grassy hops mainly with a hint of citrus. Pour was a nice deep gold with a lot of small bubbles and a half finger white head. Taste was very middle of the road. The hops were there. The malt balanced everything out, but there was nothing that stood out to rise above the normal IPA. Good, not great. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Updated: Aug 18, 2007Bottle out of the We Love Beer sampler. Pour is a bright orange with a fizzy white head. Aroma is a nice mix of pine hops and citrus. Flavor is rather weak and boring. No bold hops and the malts are almost non-existant. Finish is a little watery and tart. No where near an IPA in my book Maybe better on tap?
Re-rate: Much better than the first batch going into bottles. Lots of pine hop with a strong malt backbone. Finding this one at more Stl bars now which is a good sign. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 1, 2007 12 oz. bottle courtesy of moejuck - thanks for this regional IPA! Pours hazy ruddy amber with a moderate creamy white head that leaves pleasant lace as it diminishes. Aroma of caramel and toasty malts, citrus and dusty floral hops. Flavor is hop dominant with more of the aforementioned citrus, lemon peel, dirty pine and dust, malts are definitely in the background, with a light toasty character evident, leading to an astringent finish - a little unbalanced for my tastes as I expected more malt sweetness in the taste, based on the aroma. Medium body and tingly carbonation. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 13, 2007 A very drinkable IPA. Frothy off-white head topped a deep amber body. Nice hop aroma, pine, grapefruit. Medium body with good carbonation and nice feel in the mouth. The flavor was refreshing citrus. On the oppressively hot day it was sampled, this was a real thirst quencher. Nice beer. tjthresh (1780), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

Poured amber with very little white head and left no lace. What little bit of aroma I was able to pick up seemed to be on the English side. Earthy hops. Mostly just piny hop flavor and average bitterness. Pretty fizzy to drink. Thin and astringent. Closer to a pale ale than anything.
