Hazy and grapefruit amber. Sweet citrus and grapefruit aroma. Orangy, spicy and floral aromatic notes. As it warms, the piney hop aromas start to permeate. Initially lively and smooth. Then the dry sticky bitter hop flavors hit. Nice malt backbone with a mild caramel sweetness. It lingers just long enough for it to be truly appreciated. Then the citrusy hop notes come at you. These quickly evolve into the dry, piney hop notes. It all culminates with a long tart, sour hop dryness. While not the strongest IPA, it is still very enjoiable. And I read somewhere in a blog that it’s about time for STL to come out with a year round substantial heavy hopped IPA! I concur and applaud! sloth (1676), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA

Body is medium with an over abundance of carbonation and some astringent notes as well. Medium sweet caramel malt flavors, spicey citrus notes, grainy notes, pineapple. Finish is fairly dry, lightly fruity and somewhat astringent. Almost Amber-ish in style. theisti (1666), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2007 Updated: May 10, 2007Bottle. Pour is clear orange yellow with a medium to small white head. Aroma is fresh hop, malt and some orange. Taste starts with hops, they remain throughout and the finish is hop bitterness as well. Decent body to this one. The malt in the aroma does not come through real clear. In fact the hops and the malt seem to come from different directions. Overall an interesting brew. hayduke (1654), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2008 On draft at the Iron Barley restaurant in St, Louis, MO this came at cellar temperature in a pint glass. This was marked "cask" version, and maybe there is such a thing but I don’t find it here so I will put my rating on this one.
The color was hazy orange with a very nice pillow head and good lacing. Nose of caramel malts and citrus hops. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Lots of hop bitterness in the flavors with citrus, grass, pine, and some flowers. Long biter finish. Good midwestern IPA. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 8, 2007 Dark copper, minimal white head fades to film, decent lacing. Big pine resin and grapefruit/orange zest in aroma. Decent backbone. Flavor up front much the same as aroma, dries out through the middle. Lots of dusty biscuity malt and harsh hop character. Mouthfeel a tad thin. kiefdog (1605), Tampa, Florida, USA

Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, grapefruit, pine, caramel, honey, spice. Flavor is sweet and floral with stronger notes of citrus, grapefruit and hops with some hints of caramel, honey and spice. Generally light to medium body with a pleasing floral hop finish. beastiefan2k (1603), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Pretty damn nice hoppy beer, an extra from theisti. Pours orange-copper with a small head and cannot see through the beer. Aroma is orange-heavy citrus with grapefruit hops, nicely fresh with a slight oily hop aspect. Taste is better melded citrus flavors (cannot pinpoint one type of citrus fruit) with light sweet cereal-hoppiness (weird nothing like it before, or maybe just a well intergrated malt and hops profile). FInishes medium bitter with a long grapefruit skin aftertaste. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 3, 2007 From a 12 oz. bottle with no freshness date, "Premiere Edition," sampled at cellar temperature in a pint glass.
Poured a hazy orangey copper with a nice frothy, foamy, bubbly topped off-white head, decent retention, small amount of ringed sticking.
Right from the start you can tell this has been dry hopped, aromas of dry leafiness with pine resins and citrus rind, a light sweet maltiness in the background.
Good, steady carbonation and a crisp, dry, hop slick, creamy smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
Nice hoppy taste, a pretty balanced AIPA, pine oil, citrus zest and rind, an underneath sweet caramelized maltiness, just enough to cut the sourness, towards the end a touch of butter, and in the end the dry hops comes out, leading to a dry, softly bitter finish. The hop bitterness is light, but does softly numb the tongue, overall, a good mix of sour hops and sugary, grainy malts.
This is now my favorite St. Louis AIPA, I also prefer this to Goose Island, I need to do side by side comparisons with some Michigan and Wisconsin AIPA’s. Also great from the tap.
