| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 26, 2005 The appearance is weak. I was expecting a deep dark chocolate color, but instead got a transparent light brown/orange hue. The head is nice; champagne bubbles with a brown tinge. Aroma of a chocolate covered cherry and same with the flavor. The flavor also has a slight malt flavor to it. This beer grew on me. At first is was kind of an odd flavor, but after you finish one you want another. A nice change of flavor and a welcome change from the ordinary. Aubrey (2777), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 10, 2005 Deep amber hue. Lively carbonation; lightish and fluffy body. Big aromas, but I’m not sure how much I liked them. Of course, I first thought of chocolate covered cherries (but not real cherries, the gooey, syrupy stuff that oozes out when you break through the hardened chocolate layer). These flavors/aromas were followed by big notes of cola, pear and apricot. Very mild bitterness and a little roast surfaces in the finish. Sweetness became a little tiresome ... more or less a dessert beer. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Aroma: scents of chocolate and cherries. Similar to the scent found in cheap boxed chocolate-covered cherries
Appearance: very very light for a "chocolate" beer, small head, no lacing
Flavor: tastes of cherries and chocolate; again, similar to those Queen Anne’s Cherries that my grandfather gets every Christmas. Also, taste of cheap off-brand chocolate candy--the kind that two of will give you this chocolate candy headache/upset stomach
Palate: very very thin, no body to speak of, especially when it is supposed to be a chocolate beer
Overall: 2 paws down ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 5, 2005 This brewery is weird. First they put out a peppermint beer, and now this thing. It smells like artificial cherry flavoring with some weird chocolate scent as well… like candy… like some industrial product meant to smell like chocolate… remember those scratch-n-sniff stickers? That stuff. It’s clear dark red color confuses me… when I drink something chocolate, I expect it to be at least a little thick, but ALWAYS brown. This beats out Yoo-Hoo for the title of “thinnest body for a chocolate drink ever” title. Honestly, my brain is having a hard time with this beer being chocolate flavored but being the color of rust. Fizzy palate, god-awful weird flavor of some bad Dollar Store Halloween candy. This is a hell of an experiment, but no doubt an experiment gone wrong. Hey, at least there’s a brewery with enough balls (or not enough brains) to bottle and sell this stuff, let alone make it in the first place. CaptainCougar (5493), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 31, 2005 Pours a dark orange copper with a thin fizzy off-white head. Aroma has a nice milk chocolatey character and a touch of cherry-like tartness. Body is somewhat thin and over-carbonated but has decent flavor and sort of does taste like a chocolate covered cherry as they advertised. Cherry flavor could be more pronounced, but it has a nice wheaty sweetness. Yeah, it’s a little weird that it’s a chocolate beer that isn’t a stout or porter, but I don’t think it’s as bad as the ratings suggest on here. Thanks to Dough77 for the bottle! Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is muddy light brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, caramel), with a light note of artificial grape, hint of dish rag.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
O’Fallon sure makes some gross novelty beers. First that damned peppermint holiday thing, now this. Smells like grape soda pop spilled into a porter with some kind of mustiness in the background...cheap, not decadent. Watery. Tmoney99 (4746), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 10, 2005 Mothers Day tasting. Bottle. Poured a reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor of cherry and chocolate. Light body with little finish, which was not like a sweet fruit brew. Weak version of style. hopdog (5590), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 29, 2005 Bottle acquired in trade with beerhandy. Poured a medium, hazy, reddish brown color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate covered cherries (who would have guessed?). Tastes of the same. Just like my grandfathers favorite chocolate covered cherry candy. Weaker and thin body. Interesting.
