I can understand why this beer was past its "Best by" date, and why they were selling it so cheaply - it’s just not very good. Who would buy it at normal price? Generally, I’m not a fan of O’Fallon beers, as I think their water is bad, but this one was especially mediocre. Cheap packaging, cheap flavor. O’Fallon beers all have a muddy, salty flavor that loses all connoisseur appeal. They remind me of Boulevard Brewing (I’m in KC and have no love for them).

Appearance: Pours a hazy mahogany body with a tiny ring of white bubbles. Smell: Bready caramel malt aroma with a strong scent of peanut shells. Taste: Mildy sweet caramel malt flavor with a distinct bready yeastiness. A dust bin or two worth of peanut shell sweepings. Light fruitiness. Subtle earthy bitterness. Nutty, mald-laden finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: It’s pretty tasty. I certainly had no problems finishing my helping Goat’s Breath.

Just sort of middle-of-the-road bock beer. Not bad, but certainly nothing to write home about. This beer was surprisingly orange, with some red notes and a nice clear-brilliant clarity. Head was plentiful but not over-the-top. Aroma was lightly sweet and caramel-y, with a hint of sweet-onion earthiness. Flavor was a bit sweet and caramel-y, with some of that sweet-onion earthiness mixed in. Mouthfeel was unremarkable. Far from a bad beer, but it hardly knocked my socks off either. Still, I’d recommend it. I bought this single 12oz bottle at Three Cellars in Franklin.

In the bottle. Thanks to beerbarron for the beer. Brown and clear with a thin white head. Great chocolate and nutty aroma. Sweeter than it should be, bit delicious.

in bottle courtesy of KJ, who imported from KC. appearance cola, with ruby highlights. smells like french toast with syrup. Rich roasted flavor with a twist of sweetness and hoppy finish.

re-rate... Figured out the bourbon aroma. Drank the beer by the pool with coconut-smelling sunscreen on my face. Happened again today with a watery South American pale lager. I was like... "damn, did they barrel age this Cerveza Imperial?" A couple points taken off the aroma that were bonused for originality... and my love of all things bourbony. ***Original rating*** Bottle... Almost clear, orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The nose is a mystery to me as it’s a bit lactic and very oaken. I’m also picking up notes of sourmash. Full-bodied, fatty and chewy with medium carbonation. Malty-sweet and woodsy with moderate bitterness and just a tinge of acidity. Short, crisp, very lightly bittersweet finish. Strange brew... but underrated in my book. Thanks go out to xmarcnolanx for shipping me this very pleasant surprise!

12oz. bottle. Sweet caramel malt aroma, sugary, nutty and lightly toasty with faint touches of dried fruit and cellar must. Medium-dark amber brown in color with a slight, subsiding head. Flavor is predominantly sweet and malty, with very light milk chocolate, caramel, brown sugar and dark bread, but finishes with a blend of gently fruity tartness and grainy bitterness late, some fading roastiness here as well. Palate is amply carbonated, thin and sharp, with a medium body. I could honestly take or leave this one.

Procured at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Dark reddish/brown color, minimal beige head. nose has notes of brown sugar, bready malts, and a wee bit of alcohol. flavor is somewhat sweet, but more bitter than most other bocks I’ve tried. There is also a mild sourness in the finish. Not bad.
