Aroma is syrup, caramel and hints of nuttiness- all artificial though.
Taste follows suit, with absolutely no finish to speak of and hints of smokiness.
Bleh, poor effort. MrRain (433), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jan 11, 2008 12oz bottle poured in a lager glass. OGBBA pours reddish borwn with a small flat head. It smells like malt, caramel and a touch of metal. The body is syrup-like and very sweet. The after taste is clinging and thick and a bit stale. This isn’t a very good beer really and quite a disappointment for both a dunkler bock and an O’Fallon beer. goldbrew (99), USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Poured dark murky brown vs red and accompanied by a musty aroma. Flavor profile was extremely muddled and malt-heavy. A confusing heavy swirl of lost flavor. Sweetness was cloying and tough to swallow. Perhaps an old bottle but I didn’t enjoy this one at all. Passed it around to some beer friends who concurred. I’ll try another beer from this brewery, it hopefully should be more appealing npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 29, 2007 Rather weak nose--slightly sweet, some carob, black tea, orange, a hint of coffee. Practically no head, with a red/brown body. Flavor is quite nice, though it could be more robust. It’s fairly sweet, with a bit of chocolate, some dry bitterness, and some orange or apricot notes. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Poured a reddish tarnished copper with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing. Minimal amount of splotchy lacing.
Good malty nose of lightly roasted caramel, chocolate toffee, hints of coffee and toasted grains. A light sweet grape fruitiness and traces of spicy hops.
Mildly sweet tasting with a smooth moderate body, lightly crisp and softly dry. The malts have some earthy roastiness to them, cocoa, caramel, toffee and toasted grains. Towards the end a nice nuttiness comes out. In the middle is a subtle sweet fruitiness, white grape vinous tasting. The hops are properly subdued, adding a little drying spiciness to the malty finish.
Only slightly unusual for the style, pleasantly mellow and quite easy to drink, I thought this was a very enjoyable winter release from O’Fallon. I would like to try this fresh from the tap sometime soon.

Smells like caramel but has a nice roasted flavor. A little bit of a smoky aftertaste as well. Not bad, but could have had more to it. theisti (1680), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2007 12 oz. bottle from Lukas - KCMO. Pour is a clear auburn with just a hint of settling. 1/2 inch tan head caps it off. Aroma of caramel biscuit malt and a hint of smokiness / roastiness. The taste is pretty straight forward maltiness, with a thin-medium palate and some smoke towards the finish. Not big fireplace smoke, more like a wood oven cooking somewhere nearby smoke. Nothing complex, but nice and drinkable. BückDich (4851), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 27, 2007 Bottle: Pellucid amber color, light head. The nose is light and toasty, some vague fruit and alcohol. The flavor is a bit too sweet, medicinal with some light caramelly notes in the tail. A thin interpretation.
