4/29/2008: O’Fallon Goat’s Breath Bock Ale contains toasted and caramelized malt in both the aroma and flavor. The flavor also has hints of prune and a suggestion of bitterness. This beer has a clear, deep honey to amber color with small but stagnant beige/ivory head. The body of this beer is actually a bit more than I expected (medium to medium-full), but it worked will with the flavor characteristics of the beer. Surprisingly, this was a pretty good Bock Ale that I wouldn’t pass up given that chance to have another.
12 fl. oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom. Not too bad with the cigar. Just enough malt to make the pairing work! Rating #50 for this beer...
kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Aug 15, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of a trade from a while ago. Thanks! Pours a medium-to-dark honeyed cola color; thin, light-tan head with patchy lacing. Decent amounts of nougat and caramel in the aroma, with some sticky candy sugar / dried red fruits creeping in. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of cola, brown sugar, and dried red and dark fruits upfront; sweet, clean character, with honeyed sweetness at the core; a bit oily mouthfeel at the edges; lingering sweetness throughout. Medium, sweet finish: loads of brown sugar and dried dark fruits; ends with lingering sugar. dwaggs2 (63), Warrensburg, Missouri, USA Aug 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark amber red. Smells of malts and sweetness. Tastes like caramel and other roasted flavors. Pretty weak on the flavor. Very smooth and drinkable. Strykzone (938), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jul 31, 2008 Dark brown with lots of red. Nice tan head lasts a couple of minutes leaving only the faintest ring. Sweet aroma is full of malt. Both roasted and caramel malt fill the nose. Hops are noticed but are dominated by the malt, especially caramel. Dark cherry and some wood flavors. Alcohol provides a warming effect. Interesting beer in that all of those flavors sound great but just don’t quite work together. Not a bad beer but a bit of a disappointment. hopdog (4525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured a a deeper and muddy amberish color wtih a small sized off white head. Aromas of toasted grains, caramel, light chocolate, and bready. Tastes of toasted malts, caramle, nutty, an dsome brown sugar sweetness. kseecs16 (513), Westmont, Illinois, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear reddish brown with faint wispy off-white head. Sweet rich malt aroma. Flavor is rather potent, malt with a sweet chocolate character. Thin in the mouth with a dry finish.
