| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 10/20 | Aug 19, 2007 Tastes like beef jerkey. The smoke is all there is for taste. It does not resemble a porter at all. Hudspart (374), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Aug 17, 2007 I do not like this beer at all. It reminds me of an up all night camping trip when in college - I usually wake up the next morning with this taste in my mouth. That is not a good thing. Off the beaten path for my tastes. I guess that smokes are just not up my alley. Take my review for what is it worth. after4ever (2828), Brier, Washington, USA

Pours deep opaque black with a nice thick moussy tan head that falls away quickly to nothing. Leaves decent intermittent webby lace. Big roasty campfire woodsmoke nose. Nice tingly carb and lightish body on the attack; very forward smoke and roasty char flavors. Mid-palate goes a bit watery, but the lovely dark flavors persist, finishing in a tingly smoky cling for the after. Good stuff but not quite the revelation I had remembered from a quick sample nip at WBC last spring. MrBendo (1044), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA

Nice smoked malt flavor, not overpowering the rest of the taste. Medium bodied. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Smoky malty caramel aroma. Malty caramel smoky bacony flavor. Very nice smoked beer. Finish is smoky. Full bodied. Well balanced beer. Very nice. Enjoyable. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2007 Very promising nose. Ya’ think it is going to hale from Bamberg. And it does...but barely. A great smoked beer (there aren’t many) has a slight pork-fat smell. This one faintly does.
Mild to moderate smoky flavor on the palate; slightly flat finish.
I can’t believe I haven’t had one before, as the brewery is a whopping 15 miles away.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 27, 2007 Pour was dark brown with some ruby highlights. The head was tan, one finger tall and provided no lacing. The aroma was an initial hefty dose of smoke that was followed by some sausage, crystal malt and coffee. The flavor was smoke, beef jerky and a bit of thin coffee and malt. The mouthfeel was medium to thin and the finish had a touch of sourness to it. Not in the same league as the Alaskan Smoked Porter.
