Original rating 6/25/07:12oz bottle. Black color with a thin head. Strong beachwood smoke aroma, almost pork like. Strong smoke flavor backed up with charcoal, bitter malt and English or noble hops for bitterness. Tasty fine. Re-rating, OSLO and Guerde’s Memorial Weekend Tasting, 5/23/08. Courtesy of STLWill. Dark brown color with no head. Smells like a roaring bonfire of beechwood. Lots more of the same in the flavor. A little sweet malt and caramel manages to squeek out, but otherwise, this is like shoving your head in a firepit.

Bottle (12oz). Slightly smokey mocha coffee aroma. Dark brown color with minimal head. Moderate smoke and chocolate malt flavors. Nicely blended - not too strong smokiness but still closer in flavor to Bamberg beers than a porter.

Thanks to Willblake. Pours a deep dark brown alomost black with a thin diminishing head. Aroma is woody, bacony smoke, ham, a bit salty, chocolate, roasted malts, and smoked campfire- beechwood- similar to an intense schlenkerla. Light cold smoke flavr, smoked meats and fish, dark chocolate, salted cured meats, more campfire, beechwood, and a bit of charred bitterness. Good smooth mouthfeel. Skewed towards the smoked side than the porter side. Nice.

Absolutely loved this beer. Poured from a 12-oz bottle. It poured pitch black with a nice tan head. It had a smokey aroma of coffee, chocolate and a slight nutty smell. Taste was well-balanced of roasted coffee, cocoa and caramel with some sugary aftertaste. A very nice smokey flavor which was just perfect.

What can brown do for me? He can deliver beer from tjthresh. This is my first smoked beer. I can really smell the smoke in the nose. Almost a meaty smell. The flavor is good. Malty, burnt flavors and definately some smokiness. It is thin feeling, but has lively carbonation. Long finish with more smoke. Not sure I like the style too much, but a very interesting beer nonetheless. Thanks Tom!

12oz bottle. pours dark with off white head. nose is very smokey, meaty, with some chocolate, but not crazy smokey. flavor has nice smoke, meat, roast, and subtle baker’s chocolate. flavor is nice but a touch weak and watery. carbination is a touch high. a tasty smoked porter but no robust smoke or chocolate to be a solid smoked or smoked porter. solid but i’d take alaskan smoked porter or stone smoked porter over this any day.

Bottle: Very thin head, dark body, smoke is very present in aroma, but balenced with chocolate and tobacco flavors. In the mouth, the smoke is very present in flavor, with milk-like acidity. Tart bite in the finish, which I could have lived without. Good mouth feel. For a smoke beer I felt it was well balenced.

Compliments of Rich at DLD, cheers man!! Pours nearly black with a hint of light making its way through, smallish tan colored head. Aroma is roasted malts, smokey, earth. Flavor is roasted malts, smoke, earthen notes, chocolate. Palate is medium bodied, medim carbonation, finished slightly sweet. A nice smoked poter for sure, not the best, but I’d hit it again.
