A fine effort at a smoked porter, dark body, modest head, and a slightly-too-thin mouthfeel. But balanced out and redeemed by a huge aroma and a well integrated smoke flavor, very sharp smoked meats and a bit of mesquite. I generally want a bit more malt and thickness, but this was nice. theisti (1693), Leawood, Kansas, USA

Almost no head, even with a bug pour. Aroma is smoke, though it smells more like a camp fire would smell the next morning. The taste has a nice drinkability to it, with a nice malt and an underlying smoke presence. Based on the aroma, I was expecting smoke to be overpowering, but this was actually quite nice. The body is pretty thin, I was surprised to see the term "robust porter" in the commercial description. Overall, nice beer. beastiefan2k (1607), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 26, 2007 12 oz bottle from theisti. Pours black with a no head and almost no lacing into my small goblet glass. Aroma is moderately light smokiness, and a maltiness akin to German lagers. Taste is again moderate-light smoked, some mineral flavors. Again, I get some lagered maltiness, which seems weird. The smoke is nice but not enough and not backed up by much else. The aftertase is slightly burnt. A lighter porter with a lightly spiked mouthfeel. Leaves me wanting more smoke. A decent enough smoked but not the "Best Smoked Beer in America" as the label states. If I took the smoke away I feel I would have a rather mediocre lager, which is strange since this is not a lager. But the smoke does make it good enough. gws57 (1151), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA

Very dark brown pour with a beautiful, light brown head, awesome chocolatey, charcoal grill nose, with a wonderfully complex, malty taste with some plum. Very smokey. Awesome. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 5, 2007 My first smoked porter. Has the nose of smoked salmon. Tastes like a stout with the bitter ness of a porter. Over all pretty good with a strong lasting smoky aftertaste. Cletus (5060), Connecticut, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 27, 2007 Smell is smoked meat, campfire, strong smoke. Taste is incredible overpowering smoke. Aftertaste feels like you just smoked a cigarette. Fairly thin and a little sweet. Too one dimensional for me.
