Dark, rich and smoky…this classic porter is brewed with 63% German smoked malt and makes a perfect after dinner (or anytime) sipper for those who love a "bigger" beer. Winner of the Gold Medal in the 2004 Great American Beer Festival® for best Smoked Beer in America!

12 oz. bottle. Chocolate brown pour (ruby pitch) with a light brown head which soon reduces to naught. Potent aroma of beech smoke with chocolate. Has a lot of exemplary porter notes in the taste, including the common tendency towards sourness and artificial sweetener, though these are restrained. Also restrained is the promising smoke and chocolate, so prominent in the nose, thereafter reduced to minor players. Very light roast, even lighter caramel. Borderline creamy mf. Medium body with a lightly hoppy aftertaste. Well-crafted and well-balanced. I’d rather see this listed as a Porter than a Smoked; overall, this is a solid porter, and the smoked malt is rather ancillary.

Bottle rating. Pours opaque black with a smallish head which ends up disappearing. The smoked aspect is very pronounced when bringing my snifter towards my nose. Also roasted chocolate. Slightly bitter chalky on the palate. Some coffee and peat in the flavor. Smoked beers are not my favorites but I still can appreciate one when it is a decent brew. This one fits that mold.

Bottle. Pours a very, very dark red with a nice little tan head. The aroma is rich of smoked bacon, caramel, chocoalte, and coffee. Plenty of pronounced bacon notes in the flavor with a nice milk-chocolate finish. Halfway through the glass, the bacon flavor becomes more like tobacco , swirling around the dense chocolately finish. Minimal ashiness in the finish, for the style, anyway. I like this pretty well.

O’Fallon Smoke 12 oz bottle Recent bottling, praised 10/06 Medium pour in a tulip glass. Poured black with mahogony highlights with an average light brown creamy mostly diminishing head. Smelt of moderate roasted coffee and smoked jerkey. Taste was upfront strong bitter smoked meat taste accompanied with a light dark chocolate taste followed by a moderate bitter dark coffee bite that lingers. Mouthfeel was light to medium, oily and coating with a watery dry finish, lively to soft carbonation, with a light astringent feel. Overall, all aspects are strong enough AND balanced. It could perhaps use a bit more mouth weight (for cold winter nights), but then that could throw off the balance. Definately happy with this beer as it is. It reminds me of summer time barbecues and campfires, and wintertime fireplace sessions. A classic.

Nice darkbrown to black color, small brown head that had a short hang time then faded to leave just a slight lace behind. The aroma was malty and chocolate with maybe a hint of smoke in there but it’s pretty subdued for the moment. The flavor was smoky chocolate flavor upfront then a slight change to a roasty side followed up with more smoke and a mild bitter side,as the brew warms up a bit it tends to get a little more of an edgy bitterness with a stronger smoke side that gives you that just finished a pack of Marb’s feeling.I have to say this brew has a very nice beginning and middle but ino is best served more on the chilly side then letting it warm up for the harsher tastes.

New, more modern label. Smoke flavor stands out. Dark brownish red color. Different, but enjoyable.

Bottle. Medium sized tan fizzy head that mostly diminished, lacked lacing, opaque, carbonation observed on the side of glass, and a dark brown-black hue. Nose was smokey and roasted malt. Flavor was smokey, a tad sweet and chocolate. Tingly mouthfeel. Medium body.
