| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 27, 2006 The smoke arroma came through right from the start. Pours with an almost black color topped bya tan head. Thin mouthfeel with toasty malt flavors and the overall cloak of smoke. I can see why this is an award winning beer. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2006 Dark black color. Smell of coffee, smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Chalky/peptobismal mint taste with some roasted coffee and some hops. Smoke flavor is present also. A different taste to me. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2006 Pours a dark dark brown to near black with a small bubbled tan head. This thing looks more like a stout than a porter. This beer also smells more like bacon than a beer. There’s a good deal of smoke, (in the way bacon is smoky) and roast with hints of chocolate and wood. Feels like a stout in the mouth as well. Smooth and creamy with little carbonation. The flavors come together more pleasantly than the aroma. Sweet chocolate malt accompanies the primary smokey character. There’s again, also a good deal of roast, providing most of the lingering bitter finish. This beer is practically devoid of hops, though it is not necessarily out of balance given the roast and smoke to counter the relatively mellow sweetness. tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2006 BLack/brown color with a small dense light brown head. It has a deep smoky aroma with just a hint of chocolate and woodyness. Flavor almost identical- smoky malty, roasty, sweet, medium bodied. There is a pretty strong lingering sweetness as well.
