Jul 31, 2009 Time to catch up before BCTC. Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Throwdown. Thank to everyone who brought great beer and ribs and pickles and everything! Brown/black with ring. Smokey campfire chocolate aroma. Thin fruity chocolate smokey hop flavor. Bland and watery. About as bad as Ithaca Smoked Porter.

Jul 28, 2009 Bottle pours out a smoky brown topped with a smoky tan head. Aroma was of smoke, roast malts, a little smoked bacon and ash. Taste was much of the same but with a little more sweet chocolate and ashtray. A pretty smoky smoked brew.

Jul 27, 2009 Dark with a ruby edge, nice fine brown head, creamy body, roasted malt aroma with a touch of smoke that grows as it warms. Sweet aroma, Smokey, but meaty, ash, peat. Brownish black color, good head & lacing. Flavor is smoke, smoke and more SMOKE. It was almost impossible for me to get past. I got a bit of chocolate and charcoal, but that only added to the over abundance of smoke flavor. Might be a good beer, but I could not get past the SMOKE.

Jul 7, 2009 22 ounce bottle courtesy of STLWill. Thanks! Wow.... opened with a big pop of carbonation that made me think I had a gusher on my hands. Fortunately not. On the first fairly gentle pour I had one finger of beer and the rest was head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is fairly smoky with light roast, apple and tobacco notes. Taste is smoky, roasty malts with coffee, nutty and chocolate notes. Nice bitter bite in the finish. Full bodied, smooth and very creamy. For someone who doesn’t like smoked beers, this is pretty damn good.

Jul 6, 2009 Bottle from Siciliano’s, Grand Rapids, MI. Dark brown to opaque with medium creamy, long lasting tan head. Aroma is a good amount of smoke, a little sweet roast, nice. Flavor is smoke, roast, a little coffee, pretty dry, really nice. Medium, creamy, active fermentation. Really tasty.

Jul 6, 2009 Draught at HBF 09. Black with a firm lightly tanned head. Smokey, burned and grainy nose, pretty dry and simple. Flavor has little alcohol, dry smokiness, slight sourness and smooth burned maltiness. Medium bodied, average soft palate. I found this pretty dull, just soft and dry. I need some raw medieval notes in my smoked. And there’s really not enough of the porter to fill in.

Jun 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brownish black. Aroma is BBQ, smoke, ash. Flavor is primarily smoke, chimney, a nice fire and a little bit of that delicious BBQ.

Jun 26, 2009 Bottle at PPRBSG09. Dark brown/black beer. The aroma is smoky with a soft malty sweetness. Lots of cocoaish character with a bit of sweet vanilla as well. Softly malty yet dry with waves and waves of smokiness coming with each sip.
