Pours a black with wood-stain brown highlights around the edges. The aroma is heavily smokey, but it blends nicely with the chocolatey malts in the aroma. There some apple fruitiness underneath that as well. The flavor is a little on the dry side.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby with a small brown head. Aroma of smoked malts--of course--and smoke, dark chocolate, smoked meat (thinking bacon, jerky, etc), and maybe some slight piney hops. Taste is more of the same, with some coffee coming through, and moving to a slightly bitter, chalky finish. A bit watery. Schlenkerla is I think the only other smoked that I’ve had, and I do believe it is a good deal better than this one. Still a good brew though.

Enjoyable, if too straightforward, smoked porter. Nice roasted and smoked malt base, with hints of chocolate, coffee, wood, and smoke. Somewhat creamy texture which I enjoyed. Some decent hop bitterness in the finish. Pairs well with BBQ and probably better so, than standing alone.

12oz bottle. Poured a deep mahogany with just a light ring of beige head. Nose of smoked peat and baker’s chocolate... also a hint of salty, smoked fish. Nice flavor balance between the smoke and roasty chocolate... low on the complexity, though. Smooth on the palate and medium-bodied. Well-made, but didn’t really do it for me.

My first smoked beer and not my style by any means. Enjoyed the uniqueness associated with this style especially it being my first. Can’t wait to try more though to have something to compare.

220oz. bottle. Deep ruby brown with a tall tan colored head. Salty, meaty smoke aroma, underlying roastiness and chocolate in the aroma. Beef jerkey smokiness dominates the flavor, some sweet malt and chocolate peers through in the last vestiges of the finish. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly dry.

22oz bottle. Poured a dark, dark brown with a large sized off white head. Initial aroma of strong smoke that gave way to chocolate and roasted malts. Almost beef jerky smelling. Tastes of smoke (not overpowering), chocolate, caramel, and a light coffee finish. Lively body. I enjoyed this one.

12 oz bottle, via beerhandy. Poured a dark brown, almost black, with a thin and quickly fading off-white head, slightly cloudy. Lightly smoky aroma with roasted malts and notes of licorice and chocolate. Balanced flavor of smoke and burnt malt with a bitter and dry finish. Medium bodied with a slightly fizzy mouthfeel. Decent beer, but the smoke flavor is pretty light. Smoke did however improve towards the end of the glass as it warmed from cellar to room temp.
