Tastes of smoked pork, sweet malt, hearty smoked wood, and nicely smoked malts. Very nice beer. BeerBunker (616), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 4, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is of ham, smoke, chocolate, and wood. Taste is a huge smoky ham flavor with wood and chocolate. All the flavors, save for ham are very muted. Not an overly complicated beer. Just pure, face-raping ham flavor. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA

Smokey aroma, dark and malty, smells kind of like a scotch ale. Pretty good beer overall, the smoke comes out more as it warms, looking forward to the barrel aged version (which is next). jujubeast6000 (795), Houston, Texas, USA

Pours a dark black body with a smallish light brown colored head, somewhat diminishing, okay lacing. Very smokey aroma, sweet, almost smells like ham, almost. That’s all I can smell. Fizzy taste, very smokey taste, almost ashy. Smokey sweet aftertaste too. Not heavy tasting. No hops or anything else can be detected. Just some sweet smokiness. Not overwhelming a taste, goes down pretty well. riversideAK (2769), Shoreline, Washington, USA

Pours dark brown with a thin head. Smokey flavors of bacon and campfire followed by chocolate and light roast. Seemed a little thin, but I really enjoyed the long smokey finish in this one. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Holy smoke! Smells nice, not overly smoky. Looks as a porter should, dark dark brown, small head. A bit too much smoke for my liking across the palate and it lingers for a bit. Overall interesting but I couldnt drink a whole beer, its kind of like a damp, used piece of campfire wood. TURDFERGUSON (1606), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

Pours dark brown with small tan head that fades leaving a small ring of lace. Nose is watered down smoke, roasted malt. Flavor is very roasty and charred, but it lacks depth.
