Commercial Description:
This is a limited edition of our award winning Smoked Porter. This beer was transferred from the fermentation tank five days after it was brewed to a fifty-three gallon freshly emptied bourbon barrel where it was aged for one year. Over that year we carefully adjusted the storage temperature in order to allow the beer to work in and out of the wood of the charred American oak barrel. This process of aging allowed the flavors of the bourbon to blend with the beer, leaving a seamless transition of flavor and aroma with hints of vanilla and caramel. The smoke flavor of the beer takes a backseat to the charred oak of the barrel to make for a perfect blend of smoked porter and bourbon.

Bottle. Pours black with almost no head. Dusty aroma and flavour with notes mold, chocolate, cheap and bad red wine and a strange sweetness.

Thanks to CaptainCougar for sharing. Dark brown, no head. Aroma shows loads of barrel character. Some barrel character and and unusual hickory/alder smoke aroma. There is some soft vanilla and caramelly maltiness in the back. Flavour shows good rauch smoke character that is much more prominent than is was in the aroma. Light chocolate. I quite enjoyed this one... which puts me solidly in the minority.

Thanks to CaptainCougar for sharing - kind of medicinal aroma, with some scotch/peat/woodiness coming through - flavors of wet wood, dried cherries - light hints of smoke and vanilla - not very apparent whiskey - the barrel seems to have sucked all the smoke out of this one - a bit thin - the third strike for ofallon for me - they’re outta here!

@ blind tasting - Dark brown body with a red shine, light beige head; A little strange thin bacon smoked sweet chocolate nose; Bourbon fruity sweet body with a soft texture, not really pleasant; Medium long strange finish bitter sweet, meaty smoked, aromas of a bad red wine meat juice sauce. No good!

Pours very dark brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma has some roasted malt and LOTS of bourbon - very little if any smoke is noticeable. Medium / thin body with quite a bit of fizzy carbonation. The flavor starts off with a light taste and lots of soda-like effervescence. Then some thin roasted malt comes in and just the slightest bit of smoke. The finish has a mix of whiskey and white grape flavor. I guess overall it is okay, but it not for me at all.

From theisti, thanks Tim (well, I guess...). Pours with no head and just a ghost of a lacing, looks dead. Color is very dark brown, almost black. Aroma is spoiled fruits and very boozy, not alcoholic boozy but more like the whiskey breath of someone the morning after drinking. Very oxidized with faint smoke. Fortunately, there is a bit more smoke in the flavor, faint chocolate sweetness and of course the ever-loving booze. Very thing body, watery, reduced carbonation, which all work horrifically bad here. Whiskey gone wild, ugh. 22oz bomber, Hobgoblin tulip glass.

Bottle. [#24 Blind tasting session @ Sk8viking] Small frothy beige head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework. Black color. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, molasses, smoke, brown sugar. More smoked notes over the palate that appears like smoked bacon. Medium bodied with a flat carbonation. Light to moderated sweet flavor with light bitter notes. Light smoked sweet finish. 07-09-2007

Bottle. Black coloured with a small beige head. Roasted aroma of smoke. Roasted and smokey flavour of liquorice. Light watery. The smoke is very dominating.
