Smelled of chocolate and roasted malts. Sweet taste that fell apart a little on the palate. Medium to thin bodied beer that left me a little disappointed. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Pours black with very short lived beige head. Smell is lightly roasty with a twinge of tartness to it that doesn’t seem to fit. Taste is very richly roasted and actually pretty full flavored with lots of char, and coffee. Medium to full body with slightly prickly medium carbonation. Leaves a bitter roasty char oily flavor in the mouth. Pretty solid, actually. TomDecapolis (3209), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, nuts and tootsie rolls. Flavor of roasted malt, light coffee, lots of chocolate notes, lightly woody, tobacco and some caramel. Overall kind of dry finish. Well done. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, slight smoke, slight bamburg wood, coffee, cream, slight tobacco, and some burnt coffee. Medium body. Slightly chalky texture. Soft carbonation. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 18, 2008 Bottle shared by Dickinsonbeer. Brown pour with a bubbly tan ring of head. The aroma is pretty off with notes of diacetyl, along with astringent vanilla bean sweetness. The body is pretty slippery. Lots of bitter malt character on the tongue- black malt and charred huskiness. The finish is quite salty. Better flavor than the aroma, but still a bit off.
