| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 6, 2008 22oz. bottle. Roasted malt, coffee and dark caramel in the aroma, sweet and gently burnt with notes of oddly sour fruit, faint butterscotch and milky chocolate. Solid black in color with a lasting, fine head and thin lace. Flavor is roasty and sweet, plenty of dark coffee and cocoa throughout, hints of toffee and raisin noted before the dry, winey, lightly bitter grain finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and very gently acidic with a medium-full body. Balance seems to improve as it warms. Thanks to hellbilly for this. beerbill (1975), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2008 22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with alohaC. Pours a dense black with a luscious brown head that lasted through mid-glass and left a coating of lace with each sip. Strong aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. The flavor is roasted malt with some coffee and much less chocolate than the aroma suggests. Some tobacco flavor and a bit of wet cardboard also present. Dry hoppy finish. Very good stout.
