Indra (1808), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA May 6, 2008 22oz. bottle. Roasted malt, coffee and dark caramel in the aroma, sweet and gently burnt with notes of oddly sour fruit, faint butterscotch and milky chocolate. Solid black in color with a lasting, fine head and thin lace. Flavor is roasty and sweet, plenty of dark coffee and cocoa throughout, hints of toffee and raisin noted before the dry, winey, lightly bitter grain finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and very gently acidic with a medium-full body. Balance seems to improve as it warms. Thanks to hellbilly for this.
Hophead22 (47), Redlands, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Very nice stout, very dark of course. Smelled very roasty, dark roasty flavor as well. From Apr. 27 08’ MrBendo (967), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jul 4, 2008 Thanks to miketd for the bomber. Pours dark brown with a large head. Good lace. Aroma of chocolate, dusty yeast and coffee. Very dry taste. Medium to light body, you might even say it was crisp. kramer17801 (1833), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2008 22 oz bottle, via FlacoAlto. Pours a black body with a one finger fizzy brown head that faded to a clingy ring. The nose is roasty with lots of cocoa powder and sugars. Coffee, charred malt, and a bit of chalk. Heavy roast and coffee grounds with a good bit of sweet lactose sugar up front. Finishes to a slightly bitter and burnt malt lingering finish. The body is thick and almost chewy with a very mouth coating clingy finish. Moderate fizzy carbonation. Pretty good overall, but it kind of tired my palate out after the first half of the bottle. bluemeow76 (685), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA Jun 27, 2008 At Oggi’s in Del Mar. Decent, middle of the road stout. Smooth, malty, nutty - easily drinkable. Mild enough to be a good cross-over beer. Oscbert (181), Sacramento, California, USA Jun 17, 2008 ~Pours black with brown head.
~Nice coffee aroma with some choclate.
~Bitter toasted coffee flavor, malty.
~Dry bitter finish.
~It’s good, but I would like more flavor and scent in a stout.
