Nose is full of chocolate, sweet and chewy, hops and a bit of smoke backs it up, a delectable treat for the olfactory senses. Front is rich in malt, sweet and thick, hops and burnt grain provide a delectable spicy bitterness, top is full bodied and rich. Finish has a fair to middling acidity, the hops pleasingly spicy, a touch of warming and the aftertaste thick and dry, a stout lovers dream.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 15, 2009 22 oz bottle. Aroma of chocolate and dark roasted malts. Hint of coffee in the background. Flavor wasn’t a good as the aroma, a bit flat. A lot of the same, roasted malts, chocolate, and a hint of smoke/burntness in the finish. Flavor was not as complex as I had hoped. Mouthfeel was to thin for me, but there was a good bitterness that lingered. BobbyAnalog (25), California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 29, 2009 The color is like that of a syrupy oil pan. An interesting silky head, copper in complexion, boils up at the top of the glass. The smell is much like huffing a paper bag full of stale air, to put it nicely as I can. Taste wise, the stout is teeming with a rich, dark chocolate finish. Notes of coffee hover ominously in the background of the beer, but the overall impression is a forgettable one. More like an aged chocolate shake than a suitable beer. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
