| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 10, 2005 Mahogany pour, mostly lasting off-white head. Rich and chewy toasted malts are sweet and fruity (grapes, berries, caramel apple). Bitter on the palate, drying out immensely in fraction of seconds. Medium-full bodied, fair carbonation. Ridiculously hoppy imo which is too bad, because it has the great maltiness to make a fine malty barleywine or scotch ale, but this citric acidity is really too much. willblake (2180), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

It poured a deep brown color w/ reddish highlights, good head and thin lacing. Caramel and raisin sweetness, malt, hints of plum and wood on the nose. The flavor was the same w/ hints of grapefruit also. This beer was dry but aggressive, a full body and good effervescence. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 8, 2004 This beer was had on tap at Oggi’s Vista. It pours a dark mahogany color with absolutely no head and lacing. The aroma is very faint but sweet with chocolates, malt, pine, and licorice in the nose. Did i mention recently how I am not a big fan of licorice? Anyhow, this had a medium bodied flavor with a dark currant backbone followed by hints of grapefruit and lemon. This ends very dry, with little to no carbonation, Typical scotch ale flavor, grapefruity and banana-like...some appearance of that 9.6% as it warms. Solid but not all that exciting. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 25, 2004 Dark Burgundy. Earthy, meaty, malt driven aroma with scents of syrup, apple, toasted malt and chocolate. Malts dominate and give a sweet, smoky, meaty, fruity feel with notes of caramel, chocolate, toasted bread and toffee. Well hidden alcohol but not very complex and a little on the sweet side.
