Hoppy nose (guess), but with some extras: nutty, meaty, nutmeg, pine. Very hoppy taste indeed, typical American, but with a massive counterweight of all kinds o' malts, even sweetness represented as a back ground - a viscous X-mas cake. Oily mouthfeel, full bodied, warming-massive. Alcoholburn. Great beer indeed. Maybe I'm most impressed with the balance. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

Tastes of dryness, bitterness, grapefruit and soco dominate. A big ass beer. iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Good strong aroma, that drew me in for a taste with nice orange peels, caramel and malt. . .but smacked me in the face when this swill touched my tongue - totally out of wack, with too much alcohol and minimal flavour. . . fraternie (710), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Mar 2, 2003 Promising, malty toffee aroma. Malt--WHAT!!?? Shit/grass flavor, dear GOD! Way out of balance, couldn't even finish this one. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 2, 2003 This was one rough beer to drink. Harsh with a ton of alcohol dominate in the nose and the mouth. The alcohol is reminiscent of the World Wide Stout 23%, except DFH tried to cover the alcohol with flavor. That was lacking here. Another huge beer with far too much alcohol; this was just a novelty. jazz88 (2238), San Francisco, California, USA

This was my first sample of the event and boy was it hard to take. Brown amber color with no head. Overpowering alcohol. Lots of smoke and tons of oak wood made for a challenging flavor. Some deep vinous cherry in the aroma. MrDick (278), San Francisco, California, USA

Unfortunately, my notes were rather illegible at this point in the festival. Something about "spicey." Or maybe that word is "suckey." At least I wrote 16 next to some scribbles, so I'll just go with that. And hopes it's not the age of the girl that I was talking to. mwsf (360), San Francisco, California, USA
