Commercial Description:
A rich, malty Scottish style ale brewed with a splash of molasses in the boil to create a unique Caramel flavor. Small quantities of hops are used to keep the bitterness low and the aroma and finish clean and crisp. Named for our first brewmaster in Del Mar, John Garvey. Gold Medal winner at the 2008 World Beer Cup.

On-tap at Oggi’s Del Mar. Pours brown red with a crispy, large bubble, offwhite head. Smells slightly crisp malty with some caramel as well. Tastes about the same. Malty, caramelly sweet and a bit crisp. Slightly watery body and it could use a bit more carbonation.

I’m a tough customer when it comes to Scottish ales b/c Barley’s MacLenny’s Scottish is my go-to beer when hanging out at our local beer stomping ground. So this "scottish" was a dissapointment. It was malty with carmel hints, but the flavor just wasn’t there. It felt almost overly carbonated for the style and the taste was very thin.

~Pours a dark amber color with small off white head. ~A light sweet malty caramel scent. ~Sweet malty taste with some light hops. ~Light feel quick finish. ~Its a decent beer. Very light has potential to be so much more.

On tap at Oggi’s Arrowhead. Nice garnet colored brew with a small eggshell head. Caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Something here just doesn’t sit well with me...wish I could place it. A little thin also for the style. Not a fav.

Not bad. Pours clear brownwith red highlights and a short off-white head. Caramel and molasses in the aroma, with some smoke. Nutty taste with a fair amount of caramel and toffee. Earthy malt and roasty finish.
