Aroma is burnt malt with a little sweetness mixed in for fun. Appearance is jet black with an off-white head. Bitter taste in the mouth and not much else in the bottle form. Cask so much better than this. The palate is too much burnt malt. Overall the beer is so much better in cask. Very disappointing.

500 ml bottle, bought at Biererei, Vienna.
Poured murky deepdeepdeepruby with a nice tan head. Very fruity - raisins, apple, fig - aroma with some caramel, honey and roasted malt, light coffee(espresso). Medium bodied with a balanced roasted flavor with coffee and cocoa, fruits like raisins, fig and plum. Little bit short, but nice stout one.

500 ml Bottle. Dark brown colored with purple highlights and medium sized beige head. The aroma is dark chocolate with sugar candy and sweet, dark berries. Dark chocolates at initially , follows some dark fruity tartness and finished in a lasting roasted aftertaste. Smooth, easy bodied. It’s halfway between sweet and dry stout indeed.

Bottle. The beer pours a deep black colour with ruby highlights. Aroma was chocolate, roasted and coffee. Flavor that is slightly sour with good hops then coffee and a slight nutty ruby port flavor as it warmed.

Cask at the Old Fountain, London on 4th November 2009. Dark ruby with off-white head leaving a ring of foam around sides of glass. Burnt malt/smoke aroma; very fruity main kick with strong raspberry notes and some spice, akin to a Belgian Frambozen. The finish continues on a fruity theme; an alcoholic note is also present in the finish, all delivered on a mildly textured mouthfeel. A different, and pleasant, well-crafted stout.

Pours a three finger tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Totally black color, no high lights. Medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Slight roasted coffee nose. Flavor is semisweet roasted coffee. Small burnt coffee finish. Not finding any port. Halfway between a sweet and dry stout. $4.99 for a 500ml bottle from Manchester Wine and Liquors Manchester, CT. Best by 1/23/10.

Cask, JDW, Carlisle. Stunning, smooth subtly roasted jet black stout. Beautifully balanced richness that just slides the neck far too easily. One of my favourite stouts.
