tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Sep 18, 2005 Bottle. Pours an orangish iced-tea color with a fast-rising off-white head that eventually deflates to a reasonable size. The aroma is sweet, woody, and a bit floral. The flavor is wood and grapefruit up front, then a tour of various malts, then some floral honey sweetness, then a warm and smooth hop finish. Not the kind of thing I would drink for leisure, but this would be excellent with some good food. HenrikSoegaard (4263), Randers, Denmark Sep 10, 2005 This is a good beer!!!!!!
Excellent white lasting head, wonderfull orange colour, cloudy but thats OK.
Thin but delicate aroma, with hopps and flowers. Good heavy bitter taste, average finish. I would taste this one again. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 25, 2005 Monsrtous, rocky, off-white head that looks good...for a belgian ale. I have never seen bubbles rising to the surface like this in an English ale. Color is a nice orangey amber. Aroma is spicy, floral, and different from anything I have ever smelled...an almost maple-like, floral fruitiness and some undistinct malt. The hops dominate but there is also some orange pith and passionfruit esters as well. An odd flavor profile that it is long and complex though not completely pleasant. A nice bitterness rides thruoghout the palate. It starts out with malt and spicy hops, a solid acidity coupled with some hard water character at mid palate then a staightforward, overly solid malt returns in the finish with a big hit of tangy hops and that odd, overcooked, maple/floral flavor integrating. Unique for a production brewery beer. It reminds me more of an underpitched (too little yeast for fermentation) homebrew than the beer I drank in 6 pack bottles as late as 1997. DrBeer (777), Danderyd Stockholm, Sweden Aug 15, 2005 Hazy, orange with no head.
Hoppy aroma with notes of fruit, licorice, choclate, roasted malt and spices.
Fruity flavor with notes of anice, english hops, chocolate, malt and spices. Dry finish. TheGrandMaster (1846), Auckland, New Zealand Aug 4, 2005 Updated: Apr 26, 2007Half pint pulled at the Great British Beer Festival, light brown with thin head. Strong malt in the aroma. Smooth with a bitter finish. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jul 23, 2005 From the bottle pours a hazy deep amber with a thick frothy off white head that keeps a respectable cap till the bottom of the glass.
Aroma of yeasty (bottle conditioned duh) alcohol with woody and raisin tones.
Flavour is roasty malt with a bitter finish and lingering hoppy aftertaste. Not my one of my fav. Bitters but a nice bottle conditioned example. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Jul 18, 2005 (on bottle) Unclear, toffeecloloure with a small, lasting, white head. Woody and fruity aromas, with a backdrop of caramel and smoke; Sniffed this one for a long time; goood. Parshly bitter, malted flavour and a tart, refreshing finish. imdownthepub (5089), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Jul 7, 2005 Bottle Conditioned, 500 ml. Orange amber with short lasting head. Full flavoured premium bitter, heavy for a traditional beer, but drinkable all the same. This is a warm fireside, keep the cold out beer, cosy chat and never mind the time. There is a fruity maltiness abounding, fleshy but subtle, and hidden hop notes, mine was aged somewhat!! Woody resinous finish giving a solid statement to a decent beer.
