DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Dec 25, 2007 Hazy orange amber, modest orange-tinted cap. Floral fruity hop nose, some yeasty caramel to back things up. Caramel, a little nutty, fruity yeast, very bitter finish. Only criticism is the body is quite thin, but this lends to drinkability I suppose. A solid bitter. crushinat0r (227), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 25, 2007 Amber in colour, and not much head, doesn’t look particularly interesting. Smells of light hops and a hint of wheat. The taste follows suit, pretty plain with a hoppy.bitter aftertaste. Quel suprise. At least it’s smooth and consistent. Decent beer. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 24, 2007 Nice traditional-style Bitter with a thin, drinkable body and lingering bitterness in the finish. Extremely clean and plain, with a hint of sourness. Good for the style. Nice caramel notes in the nose. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 21, 2007 Bottle, Can’t believe I had to come all the way to Canada to get this. Cloudy ruby/orange colour, nice, stable head. A definite hop/malt flavour and a bitter/malt flavour with a semi-lasting finish with malt finishing notes, Nice Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 18, 2007 Bottle: Poured a orangey brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of dry malt with some light bittering hops presence also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by some dry malt with some hints of nuts and a nglish hops finish that is also quite dry. Body is above average with some great carbonation. Well done for the style but not necessarily something I would care for very often. daniel0017 (232), Ontario, Canada Dec 15, 2007 500mL bottle: Rich, frothy tan head of two fingers on cloudy brown body. Aroma is floral, malty with bitter flavor foreshadowing. Bitter / rich combination of malts and fuggles or challenger. Bitter finish. I love ESBs in general, this one is in the upper crust. Diogène (543), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 15, 2007 500 ml bottle from LCBO. Hazy amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is yeast, herbal and floral hops, roasted malt and brown sugar. The body is medium with a soft carbonation. Flavor is yeast, sweet malt, roasted malt, fruis and pipe tobacco with a bitter finish. My first commercial bottle conditioned bitter. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Dec 15, 2007 500 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temp. in a tulip glass. DE07/07
App.: Medium copper, clear, large off-white head.
Aroma: Some caramel/toffee and dried fruit notes beneath a vail of organic acids – seemingly lactic and acetic (uh-oh), light nuttiness and piney hops, biscuit and bread crust, light citrus notes.
Palate: Medium body and carbonation.
Flav.: Fairly fruity, very light bread crust/biscuit, citrus hops; dry, a little tangy with a fair hop bitterness.
The acidity was troublesome and dragged the experience down for me.
