Commercial Description:
Scarce, subtle and complex, Thomas Hardy’s Ale is the beer enthusiast’s equivalent of rare cognac. Bottle-conditioned to mature in the bottle like fine wine, this old ale/barley wine will improve with age for at least 26 years (and we’re still counting!). Not for the faint of palate, especially when young and brash, maturity brings an elegance of flavors unmatched by any other beer—if you have the patience to cellar it for at least a decade.

2008 experience & this bottle is number 37202.A malt bomb.A malt hurricane. Rivers of syrup glide down your tounge and make your vital organs warm and boozy. You know you should let such a fresh bottle age for 4 years ,but sue me I was excited to locate this localy. The aroma gives the fattest malt on the planet..drunken treacle, caramel on brown sugars, figes and tree bark. Rich and sticky ass malts shine more than the gold bottle this poured from. Lotta alcoholic peach ester..some apple ester and smoke in there.
3 years and this could be up there in the 4’s.

’04 bottle. Pour is cloudy brown with zero head. Aroma of oak, brown sugar, molasses, and toffee. Taste is buttery toffee, and syrup. Medium mouthfeel. Definitely a sipper. Nice alcohol burn in the finish.

Much like Orkney’s Skullsplitter, this beer has a great buttery biscuity taste, very farmhouse. Although unlike skullsplitter, they added sweet caramels and some subtle fruits making it more of an adventure to drink. Worth the price.

2007 vintage, thanks SHIG for sharing, pours still orange/red. Honey and flowery aroma. Sweet cloved honey, more alcohol and malt going on. Great with only 2 years on it.

2006 bottle poured a cloudy brown color with some red highlights and a pittance of tan bubbles that barely constituted a head. The aroma was malts, caramel and booze. Some prune or raisin too. The flavor was malt cut with alcohol, raisins, brown sugar and some faint hops. Nice mouthfeel, alcohol not prominent. Kind of boring really.

Other than the bottle, not a pretty beer as such, unfiltered dark colour, minimal head. The aroma at first sniff is a kicker, but at subsequent sniffs discreet, unless left alone for a while (I guess due to the minimal head). The taste is overwhelming. It reminds me of the half glass of rum left after soaking raisins for 24 hours when making glögg. Sweet, strong, quite complex. A slow drink, that may take an hour to thoroughly enjoy in zips. Make sure it is cold when you start out, or chill as you go along, as otherwise it gets a little much. Vintage 2005 purchased for 65 dkr at ølbutikken.

Pours a dark reddish brown with no head. Nose of cherry, dark fruits, alcohol, molasses and whiskey. Flavor same as aroma with soy sauce and syrup on the palate. Very warm alcohol.

Reddish-brown in color with a small head. Aroma is of molasses, honey, brown sugar, a little oak, caramel and vanilla. Taste is of caramel, molasses, a little whiskey and some warmth.
