Pours very syrupy hazy brown color with absolutely no head at all. Aroma is alcoholic with malts, some dark fruit and winey. The flavor is dark brown sugars, molasses, dark fruits (grapes, plums, prunes and a lot of figs), and some toasty malt. The beer is a little hot but at 11.7% I kind of expected that (especially after the aroma) and all things considering it is hidden well and very smooth. The beer is rich and complex with gentle flavors if that makes sense. In the end it’s an expensive but fun experience, at least once, but I didn’t think it was amazing party because I thought it was maybe a touch too sweet. Driftwood6 (214), USA

A great bready, alcohol aroma and a wonderfully smooth, rich complexity in flavor. Very well balanced-- no one prominent flavor. Very enjoyable and a nice counterargument to the hoppy American-style barleywines. Kalli (480), Falun, Sweden
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2008 Looks like dark brandy. Malt and indian pickle on the aroma and... yes, brandy. Incredible cask and port flavours. It’s almost like port mixed with single malt. jhagmar (114), Gothenburg, Sweden

Intense, sickening sweet taste. Hopefully there was something wrong with this sample, since it was impossible to drink even a mouthfull. Bullit (1392), Glasgow, Scotland

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 7, 2008 2004 vintage. No head, brown, dark orange, beige colour. Vinegar aroma, some hints of smoke and yeast, porter-ish. Taste was full and tarty, very smooth, thick and nice. Maybe the best fireplace beer in the world. Thanks so much to Brian (ruffian) for this!!!! MrChopin (678), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | May 6, 2008 No head, opaque color and completely dead palate, like muddy rainwater or nesquik. Nose is a mix of chocolate, roasts, and strong bread/wheat. Taste was ultra sweet and it felt like I was drinking chocolate milk, everything smothering my tongue. Maybe it needs to age more?

Great aromas including caramel, malt, prunes, raisins, nuts and a hint of alcohol. Flavor was sweet and fruity. Alcohol was a bit strong at first, but mellowed as it warmed a little. A really good brew that I would enjoy again.
