This was my first introduction to porters and is still a very good one. Nice dark coffee taste with aromas of burnt barley, but still very drinkable, and also nice and thick! A surprisingly good porter in spite of it being brewed halfway across the world.

Bottle from Kappldav123, brewed under license by Gambrinus Nagold. Best before august 1991, so almost 20 years old! Deep dark brown color. Still a small head and carbonation left. Sherry aroma with dark chocolate and grapes. Flavor has thinned considerably, but still has creamy chocolate, grapes, the last remains of roast, dust, sherry and strawberry. Has matured way better as expected. Past its peak, obviously, but carries the years gracefully.

Bottle. Dark almost black with a frothy half inch head. Mild dark malty aroma with light chocolate, coffee, licorice, some alcohol. Flavour has more licorice, coffee, some earthiness with light hops in the background. Light mouthfeel.

Porter vs Baltic Porter...I don’t think I could tell them apart. This one poured with a large, quick-to-disappear, tan head and a dark dark dark body. Aroma was inviting, with some toasted malt and coffee. Taste was nothing less than delicious, with chocolate, the aforementioned malt, and perhaps some darkish fruit. Heaven. Mouthfeel was rich and thick, and aftertaste was satisfying. Highly recommended.

Poured out into the glass with a small amount of off-white head that sat on top of the dark brown beer. Simmered quickly to no more than a ring and leaving minimal tiny spotty lacing. Way too much alcohol hits the nose. It’s gotta be hid a little better than that. Toasted malts and some chocolate can also be obviously noted. Slightly sweet flavoured, the toasted malts and coffee tastes are blended decently enough with the taste of alcohol. Fairly creamy and really smooth, which suprised me considering the 8.5% and my disappointment up to this point. Full bodied. Slight tingles hit the tongue and a slight bitter finish with a big chunk of alcohol finishes you off. The alcohol content did not ruin the mouthfeel. Despite the abudance of alc, this is still an enjoyable beer.

This brew pours very black, and produced a good quarter inch of thick tan head that didn’t last to long though, just the faintest hints of red show through when held up to the light. Smells so good, overall very sweet, coffee and black liquorish make up the bulk of the aroma, the sent is relatively mild but not too difficult to detect. Tangy flavor, starts off of with the black liquorish hitting your tongue then morphs into a sweet artificial coffee syrup, you can really taste the high alcohol in this, it works for the beer but I’m not sure if I’m a fan of this taste. Mouth feel is to thin for a porter and maybe a touch too much tingly carbonation for my liking. The after taste is a very subtle chalky bitter that lasts longer then the energizer bunny. There is a strawberry like flavor hiding under all the intense flavors of this brew, I’m both enjoy and dislike this beer at the same time can’t explain it. I would recommend any one to try it; it’s a very complex interesting brew.

[2060-20090402] 341mL bottle. Peat moss, heavy malt and mild nail polish aroma. Clear, dark brown body with a medium-lasting foamy light tan head. More alcohol peat in the flavour with earthy malt. Medium-full body. Interesting balance of earth and alcohol.

Shared by jerc and mabel with HogTownHarry and I. Appearance: Dark brown with a small white head, some visible carbonation. Aroma: Peppery, alcohol, some malt and sweetness. Flavour: Copper, sweet candy, slight alcohol, nutty, a mild mouthfeel with a somewhat peat/turf finish.
