Commercial Description:
Cask: Wetherspoons special - May 2006. Bottle - 4.7%.
This is a smoked Celtic porter, with an initial sweet flavour leading to a full-bodied silky-smooth liquorice on the palate and a bitter hop finish. Hops used: Cascade, Willamette, Styrian Goldings.

Bottle from Uto. Pours quite viscous, deep mahogany with a thin beige head. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee grounds, ginger, liquorice, orange and sprucey hops...Reminds me of Yeti as I just had one earlier today. No smoke detected as of yet, a bit rubbery if anything. Ok, smoke does come through in the taste right away with roasted malt, coffee and a dry bittersweet chocolate and hop finish. It lingers(smoke), again with a somewhat rubbery note. Interesting brew, almost a hybrid between a porter and a stout, I like it.

(Stockholm Beer festival 2007) Pours black and a brown head. Weak aroma for being a porter. Some coffee and orange in the aroma. Coffee and burnt malt in the flavor. Boring.

(Stockholm Beer Festival 2007) Bottle. Black color, small brown head. Malty, fruity aroma, some rubber. Smoky, malty flavor, thin and rather boring to be a porter.

500ml Bottle (Uto Beer stall, London) Darkly roasted, but not "smoked" as such. Burnt malt, but not much more than that. Needs some body and some bite to really excel. Pretty tasty though, even though 1-dimensional.

Bottle at Bishops Arms, Järntorget, Göteborg, Sweden. Pours deep black with a small creamy beige foam. Quite one-dimensional roasted aroma, a faint smokey touch, some bitterness and a light acidic touch. Quite boring.

Bottle (labeled Coal Fire Porter). Plums, coffee, dry cocoa. Some peatiness in the finish, but more dry than sour. A nice one, rather complex, and it is miles above the black stuff being brewed in Dublin!
