Commercial Description:
Cask: Wetherspoons special - May 2006. Bottle - 4.7%.
This is a smoked Celtic porter, with an initial sweet flavour leading to a full-bodied silky-smooth liquorice on the palate and a bitter hop finish. Hops used: Cascade, Willamette, Styrian Goldings.

500 ml bottle. Black with a ruby red hue. Thick creamy brownish gray fine-laced head that clings to the glass. Rounded roasted and smokey aroma. Reminds me a little of paper. Distint smoked flavours with a creamy mouthfeel upfront. Medium-bodied, and even a little lighter towards the finish. The beginning is very milky, almost like chocolate milk. A very good and distinct porter.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a light brown head. Complex roasted malts aroma with chocolate and smoked notes. The flavours are rather more smoky and sweet, even meaty. Flat, quite full-bodied. The meaty and smoky flavours just aren’t my cup of tea.

Huge lasting brown head. Opaque black body. Milky faintly roasty hoppy minty aroma with smoky notes, very harmonic. Sweetish sharp burnt coconut smoke and licorice taste. A bit watery. Dry, smoky, minty burnt aftertaste. Quite nice, but a bit flat. Probably much better on cask. (0.5l bottle from Centra.)

500 ml bottle. Nice looking and quickly diminishing big tanned head. Black opaque body. Dry roasted malts, leather, licorice, wood, ash, and whiffs of dark fruits in the aroma. Taste is fairly dry roasted/burnt malts, bitter chocolate, black coffee-beans, with a subued hopbitterness. Medium body. Not the most mouthfilling Porter, but aromatic and tasty with lots of charachter.

Bottle. Dark with an initial smoked maltiness.Well balanced and sweet with being overpoweringly so. The smokiness is also quite subtle. An excellent porter.

Cask, GBBF 07. Dark brown, thin tan head. Nose is malty roasted with some burnt, slightly sour nose. Mouth is much the same with slightly more hop. Lighter palate, quite alcoholic, but quenching nontheless. OK.

Rerate, 500 ml bottle, as Okells Aile Smoked Celtic Porter, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is now 4.7%. My comments are basically the same as for "Branded Drinks Coal Fire Porter", so the two beers must indeed be identical. A lovely drop! Original rating: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger, under its alias "Branded Drinks Coal Fire Porter". (Are you sure they are exactly the same beer?) ABV is 4.6%. BB date Oct 08. Pitch black colour, large tan head. Lovely aroma of chocolate, roasted malts and plums, with a hint of liquorice. Distinctly roasty flavour with notes of coffee, hints of peat, smoke and tar, bitter finish. The mouthfeel could have been fuller, but this is still a good beer!

50 cl bottle - as Coal Fire Porter, 4,6 % ABV. Black with big, brown head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt. Coffee and liqorice ind flavor, with bitter aftertaste. A bit thin, but a nice balanced porter.
