Taste is of roasted malts, some hoppy bitterness and definitely coffee at the end. A simpel , but complex beer. Could definitely drink a few of these. vanvenlo (794), Glen Iris, Australia

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2007 Pours a very dark brown with a thin white head. The smell isnt overly exciting on this one. Alot of smoky malts and roasted chestnuts in the smell. Also, a little coffee towards the end. All pretty suttle, nothing jumps out at you. Taste, is kind of disappointing as well, not because it was bad, but because it wasnt what I was expecting.. I wish this one was a little more smokier. This has flames on the packaging, i want smoke!! Taste isnt bad, actually pretty good. Typical dunkel, dark fruit, a little sweet, slight hints of chocolate. Maybe I was expecting something different because of the smell. Still, very solid from a solid brewery. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 2, 2007 Pours a deep walnut amber brown w/ a medium semi creamy froth. A tight aroma of roasted malt. Medium nectar w/ ample mellow residual effers. This is an off dry, moderatly malty brew w/a defined roasted charater. Flavors range from sweet malted cherry candy to dry roasted charcoal. The finish is bittered nicely to almost balance. Leaves a slight sweetness on the palate. Overall: This is a totally enjoyable session brew. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 28, 2006 Looks pretty good, with a dark, dark brown body and sustained rocky beige head. Dusty yeast aroma initially. After the head recedes there is some chocolate malt, a bit of smoke, and a touch of zesty hops evident. On tasting some nuttiness really dominates. Way too sweet and not bitter enough in the flavour, however, and combined with the low carbonation it leaves it flat and a bit heavy. Long finish which is somewhat chewy. This is just a little past its best by date which may have had an impact - it seems like being fresh would really help this beer. Well, you gotta rate them as you get them... Boletus (52), Poland
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 27, 2006 Bottle. A decent Dunkel though an original one. Not so flatk like many examples of the style. Has some fruits and smoke and roast and malt. Not outstanding but one wants to repeat this experience. tomthompson89 (1494), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
