Nov 2, 2007 16.9 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a wispy off white head that quickly dissipates to a thin collar.
The aroma is sweet chocolate and vinous fruits.
The flavor is sweet sugary chocolate malts, vinous dark fruits, and some tarry smoke followed by some offsetting bitterness. As it warms, the molasses sweetness becomes a little cloying. The mouthfeel is medium to full with some sharpish carbonation.
Overall, a nice complex porter. A little too far on the sweet side.

Nov 2, 2007 This is one of those beers you pass over for years. I didn’t know what I was missing. It has a hearty roasted malt aroma. The flavor is much more interesting with dry malt, more roasted character with some wood, some sugar, fermenting fruit, and a touch of red wine.

Nov 1, 2007 Bottle. Not a huge fan of E. Europe beer, but this one surprised me. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa and a hint of smoke. Pours rich brown. Sticky, oily legs coat the glass after a gentle swirl. Malt, chocolate, cocoa, a hint of coffee and hops on the palate. Medium to full bodied. Nice stuff!

Nov 1, 2007 Pours an almost opaque black with a reddish hue. Sweet aroma. The taste taste is smoky with some chocolate and coffee. Kinda sweet with a bit of heat. Not really a fan of this one. I tend to like my porters balanced with some bitterness.

Oct 30, 2007 .5 L bottle. Just a hint of light gets through this near black brew. Quickly disappearing light brown head. Tons of sweetness in the nose, somewhere between candy and coffee. The flavor’s nearly all black licorice with a bit of a bitter coffee on the finish and a taste of toffee. Certainly an interesting beer, but just too sweet-heavy for my tastebuds. Still, very very smooth for a heavy porter.

Oct 26, 2007 Bottled. Poured dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma was big syrupy and chewy. Flavor was a chewy chocolate, but far too sweet. Almost cloying. Sweetness killed this beer.

Oct 26, 2007 Opaque dark brown with a thin tan head. Chocolatey, nutty, coffee aroma with a smooth, rich chocolate malt flavor. Nice.
