Pours very dark brownish black with a 2-finger uniform tan head. Great appearance...a definite 5. The aroma is big roasty malt, with some molasses, dark chocolate, and slight tart cherry hints. The flavor is roasty malty, very chocolate syrupy and a bit on the sweet side with some finishing molasses and nutty hints, and a little bit of spicy almondy nutmeggy notes as it warmed. Dense and very complex palate. This is a wonderful beer. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2006 A very nice showing, this one poured a brown to mahoganey color with a nice thick initial tan head. The head lasted for about five minutes and subsided to a thin topping, all the while providing nice lacing. Aroma was a roasted chocolate. The flavor definitely featured lightly roasted and sweet chocolate, along with some licorice, some toffee, and even vinous notes. The finish was lightly hopped with a bit of dryness. Obviously, a heavy body, but there was a bit of a grainy mouthfeel to it all. Enjoyable.
