Acidic aroma of mild roast, muted chocolate and malt. Alcohol makes itself known in both the aroma and flavour but not abrasively so. Flavour is warming, sweet malt up front with chocolate highlights gives way to mildly acidic roast and muted dark fruit. Average to medium palate (3+) Lingering malted milk or ovaltine in the aftertaste. Quite nice, a bargain for the price. Pleasantly surprised by this one. shrubber85 (2995), Wallhalben, Germany

Sweet smoky molasses and strong malt flavor with mild hops finish. Full bodied with moderate acidity. Very tasty - could never find this in Poland - found this in Louisville. smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 19, 2005 Bottle - chocolatey, malty aroma. Deep, dark brown body with a small beige head that quickly vanished to a small ring around the glass. Amazing flavor! Big chocolate that just doesn’t stop. Some mocha mixed in. Very full mouthfeel that is a nice touch oily. Wow! Pailhead (2609), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of Secret Santa. Great mocha aroma with light roasted malt and grain. Alcohol is slightly detectable in the nose. Pours a dark brown with the slightest hints of orange hlights. Moderate tan head fades quickly. Lots of chocolate from start to finish. Slight fruitiness. A nice balance of roasted malt and grain in the middle. Finishes with moderate roasted coffee and hints of nuttiness. Not even close to as sweet as I was anticipating based on some reviews I’ve read. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Deep brown, fading off-white head. Straight molasses and thick caramel aromas fatigue the nostrils by their extreme sweetness while failing balancing aspects take the shape of soy sauce, tobacco and slight roastiness. Nauseatingly sweet palate explodes with syrupy molasses and rooty gum, sugar and dark malt oils, bready and sweet sweet sweet. Syrupy palate somehow manages to expands through moderate carbonation. A beer with a few small qualities and one big default. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Dark, muddy-brown body with a fading, sudsy tan head. Aroma of sweet coffee and dried cherries. Flavor has elements of coffee, chocolate, root beer, and licorice and is fairly hoppy with medium-high bitterness and a light roasty aspect. A distinct beer with modest appeal that grows with each sip.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2005 Updated: Jan 15, 2006Pours a very dark brown with some ruby hints showing aroung the edges. Has a one finger head that slowly recedes to a thin cap that leaves behind some thick lacing on the sides of my glass.
Smell; it has a good roasted smell, with some plums, and a little coffee and chocolate.
Taste; roasted malts, coffee and chocolate stand out at first, followed dark dark fruits (plums or raisins) along with just a hint of toffee. Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth, and it gets slightly richer as it gets warmer. This is one hell of good porter.
