| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 16, 2005 Color is a seemingly deceptive black but tends to keep a dark brown like that of a brown beer bottle. Up to the light it gets a shadowed bloody reddish black. Cool and creepy. Great soft, creamy, and bubbly froth of mediumish size and is cocoa colored. Fades slowly to keep a good amount of its stature always present and the lacing coats the glass like thin frosting. Beautiful!
Aroma is clean, darkly sweet, and lightly roasted as dark fruits make up the toppings with plum, date, banana skins, over ripe pear, and raisin and is drizzled in a caramel, chocolate/cocoa waffer-like dusting over the fruityness.
Taste is well established in malty dark fruityness while maintaining a great chocolatey richness. Right from the get go it begins to unveil its velvety structure with warming chocolate and caramel that sit aside some very nice creamy banana. Tender little hints to pale figs, fresh dates, and smashed raisins make the edges. Dark toffee creates a nice swipe through the middle as it totally fills in with more, darker chocolate and a touch of iced coffee as it finishes slow and gradual. A wondeful finisher. Lots of left over flavors of the dark fruits mix intriguingly well with the chocolate tones. A lavishly yummy treat to behold.
Mouthfeel is quite nice. Not too heavy set nor extremely thick. Velvety smoothness and silky richness is the setting stage. Letting it crawl slowly out over your palate as the flavors take to the play in full garb with the nice little toasty/roasty hints within the caramel, toffee, and chocolate. Has about a medium-full body with a delicate texture that grows as it warms. Wow, what a ride! And gone before you know it. The bigger 500ml bottle doesn’t last as it should. Quite drinkable, and thusly so by leaps and bounds. One to stock up on, keep around, drink lots of, whatever. Great stuff!

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 15, 2005 Murky brown pour with a ring of light brown lace. Good flavor of rich malt with chocolate. Pleasant flavor of rich, thick, round malt, a bit roasty, with chocolate, the finish is mildly bitter. The body is pleasantly thick and creamy and the carbonation is low. Not as complex as other baltic porters, like Zywiec, but the malt is so great that it compensates a lot, I love this beer. Boutip (2399), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 8, 2005 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black porter with a medium dark head with pretty good retention. Aroma of rich chocolate with some roasted malt. Taste is sweeter then I remembered (I had this last time about 7-8 years ago) with lots of chocolate flavour. Very little bitterness or hops are noticeable and alcohol is well hidden. Rich creamy body make this quite enjoyable overall.
