| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 29, 2003 Very dark with minimal head. Different from the stouts I've had recently. Very smokey tasting. A little syrupy yet watery. BBB63 (4274), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2003 Deep brown with amber highlights with a small tan head and good lacing. The aroma lints of burnt chocolate and black malts, molasses, oak barrel, moderate alcohol, aromatic hops, prune and apple, and espresso. The nose is very vinous and very traditional, I like it. The taste starts very malty sweet with a fruity and oaky background. I good hit of bitter hops and acidic notes come to play as well. A molasses twang is followed by a dry coffee finish. Quite tasty indeed. The body was medium with a creamy/oily mouthfeel, alcohol is present but very subdued. A underrated stout IMO. Very traditional with an English overtone, much like Fullers or Samuel Smiths. If you like the English style old ales and stouts, try this one out. If I didn't know better, I would have not guessed this to be made in Australia, good job mates. SDbruboy (1833), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2003 Bottle. Poured darkest brown, thick and opaque with a medium brown head. Aroma is all burnt malts, coffee and bitter chocolate with a hint of hoppiness. Flavor emphasizes the burnt malts, a minimal sweetness along with assertive hops and a bitter finish. Body is thick with almost, but not quite, creamy carbonation. Decent stout. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 17, 2003 Murky dark, thick cocoa-colored head. Head leaves almost no lacing on the sides, sticks together. Nose is lightly roasty, considerably more hoppy than expected. Flavor is burnt, slightly sweet, mildly soapy. A bit of coffee. Finishes with a nice bitterness. Too watery in the palate, while I appreciate a thinner stout, this doesn't taste thin as much as it tastes like something is missing. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 27, 2003 Poured a medium tan head that was quick to dissolve. The lacing was fair on the sides of my mug. The body was black and it was on the thing and watery side for a stout. It had a smooth coffee taste to it. It lacks character and it was not one of the better stouts that I have drank. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 27, 2003 Updated: Jun 4, 2003This brew poured a medium head of fine to medium sized brown bubbles and a opaque black body. It has a strong malt and alcohol aroma with a mild chocolate and very mild coffee flavor. It is smooth initially then a slight bitterness lingers into the aftertaste. An average stout in my book which is not marked by the strong coffee flavor of most stouts. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 3, 2003 Mildly sweet, brown sugar aroma, black, with a medium sized cappuccino head. Hints of bitter coffee, full bodied, but not very distinctive, quite ordinary.
