Looks pretty tasty in the glass, lovely red/orange/rust colour with small creamy/bubbly head. Aroma could be better, has a bit pondy sulphur-like aroma behind the hops and malt. Flavour makes up for the aroma, however, with a good smack of bitter hops backed up by some soft biscuity barley, and an all round fruitiness. There’s also a slightly curious smoky quality that wafts around in there, oddly reminiscent of gunpowder or cordite, but that might just be my suggestibility showing. Finish is surprisingly bitter, I must say, a little on the acrid side for my taste but certainly passable and warranted for the style. All in all a great effort, and has a good bit of depth for a beer of 3.8% which is totally commendable, but not my favourite Old Cannon beer. Their Black Pig and Gunners Daughter are true beers to be reckoned with!

I don’t know what’s going on with the ratings of this beer, maybe as its a fairly new brewery the 1st recipes weren’t quite up to it, or maybe some people are not keeping their beer properly, but I thought this was a classic session bitter. Nice light copper colour, hoppy nose then a delicate refeshing palate. Some fruitiness, and a lovely refreshing perfume & floral character, & a nice amount of bitterness on the finish. Refeshing and tasty, what more do you want ffrom a session beer?

Cask conditioned. Pale amber coloured. Rather strange and unpleasant. Loads of side flavours. Very minerally. Unclean.

Cask (GBBF): Light copper with a white head. Mild fruit aroma. Thin bodied, and very strange in flavour, very astringent.
